Progress: We Can Walk To The Road!

Good grief. We live at ground zero! The Weather Service calculations, confirmed by my next door neighbors, say Hamden received 40 inches (100 cm) of snow. That’s the most of any location for this storm!

That’s a lot of snow.

We’ve been isolated! Three and a half feet of snow separated Helaine, Doppler and me from the rest of the world. We were two snowfilled streets from a plowed surface.

As I locked the front door last night I wondered, “Why?” Is there a burglar that resourceful and dedicated to his ‘craft?’

Things have begun to change. My town still hasn’t been on our street, but some resourceful and helpful neighbors have.

One neighbor’s son came by with a snowblower to clear a path through our driveway. We can’t take the cars out of the driveway, but at least we can walk to freedom.

Another neighbor unveiled a Bobcat S185 Skid-Steer Loader. I have no idea where it came from, but I’m glad it’s here. The bucket is capable of moving 1850 pounds of snow… and it did.

My driveway still awaits Frank, our plowguy, but at least the fire and police departments can now get to us. It’s the little things.

The Sun is out. Birds are chirping. Pitchers and catchers report Wednesday.

Can spring (or at the least a little melting) be far away?

  1. No better in Guilford. Only 50 percent of the roads are cleared. Mine is not one of them. One child walked out to freedom this afternoon. I am getting ready to put out a call to any North Guilford friend with access to a plowed surface to pick me up at a location as close as possible to my house and give me a ride to a store. We are running out of supplies.

  2. They are opening up one lane on all roads in Ansonia. They want people to stay off the roads. All the work we did clearing out yesterday got undone by the snow plows, so had to dig out again. At least it wasn’t a 6 foot wall to go through this time.

  3. Love the photos.I`m so great full for friends with a snow blower and shovels and neighbor with backhoe.I would have been snow in till donkey fly other wise.

  4. oh, geoff, those pics of doppler are too cute! i don’t know how you can get anything done with her around – i wouldn’t be able to put her down!
