Trying To Keep A Low Profile In This Weather

NWS-EDD

It came via Twitter early today.

@JRRN27 @geofffox Hey Geoff, bet you don’t miss this snow!!!! –

It’s true. I don’t.

And there lies the rub.

Will I piss off old friends if I talk about the weather too much?

Roll down the window put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys baby
Don’t let the music stop
We’re gonna ride it till we just can’t ride it no more

>From the South Bay to the Valley
>From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody’s very happy
‘Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day

We were in the eighties today. Even now, at 7:30 pm it’s 64°. Three of the next seven days are forecast over 70°. Six of seven will beat 60°.

Like most people who’ve moved, Helaine and I keep track of what’s going on elsewhere. The Internet makes that easy. I’ve been watching the cold and snow where my sister and folks live near Milwaukee and this weekend’s weather in Connecticut.

Snow is not a singular event. It takes different skills to navigate it at different stages.

TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION WERE IN THE LOWER TO MID 30S…AND WILL FALL TO BELOW FREEZING THIS EVENING. ANY STANDING WATER ON AREA ROADWAYS WILL BEGIN TO FREEZE AS THE TEMPERATURE FALLS. PATCHY BLACK ICE WILL BE LIKELY…ESPECIALLY ON SECONDARY AND UNTREATED ROADS…WITH SLIPPERY CONDITIONS.

USE CAUTION IF DRIVING THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. BE ALERT FOR AREAS OF ICE. – NWS Forecast Office Upton, NY

Better forecasting has changed how people deal with snow. Years ago snow was often a surprise. The exact accumulation might be off, but a forecast of snow today is nearly always followed by actual snow!

If you’re scared of driving in snow, you no longer have to! You can plan ahead. That’s taken a lot of people off the road in storms.

More snow is likely early Tuesday in Connecticut. It will be light, but of a long duration. That means additional inches turning dirtying snow back-to-white!

SoCal residents have little tolerance for any deviation from sunny and 70°s. It’s funny to see people in winter coats when it’s in the fifties. Scarves too.

My daughter confessed she enjoyed the last rainy day. It was a change from the monotony of blue skies.

I will resist, but I can see how that happens. It’s only rained parts of five days since we arrived in late June.

Don’t stop weighing in on our weather in CT, Geoff -we know it’s beautiful in CA, but we’ve gotten to feel confident that you’ll give us the real scoop! (You can even gloat …… sometimes. Unless we have another 3-footer. Then only commiseration will do.)

I was just outside with my dog. The moon is out, shining down onto the newly fallen snow. Since we had rain following the snow, it’s now frozen and every footstep echoed throughout the night sky. There was no breeze, no noise except for us. Fleece was all I needed for warmth. Absolutely gorgeous.

      Well said, Cherie.

Some people like only vanilla ice cream, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Me I like many different flavors…..

I was born in So. CA and lived there most of my life. Once a CA girl, always a CA girl. Now that I’m living in CT, I rarely leave the house during the winter months, because it is too cold. Don’t want to drive any where when the weather is bad, for fear of getting involved in an auto accident. Only a few more years & I’ll be returning to sunny CA. “I Can’t Wait”!

If you dress for the weather, unless it’s below zero, the cold isn’t so bad. I really enjoy coming home and having a cup of something hot after being out in the cold! And driving in the snow isn’t any different from driving in LA after the first rainstorm of the season. I hope you can find a way to enjoy the beauty of winter.

I bought a lot of warm clothes, including a faux fur coat. Besides being afraid to drive during the winter months, I’m also afraid to walk outside after I fell backward on the street & ended up with a concussion. Snow is beautiful, as long as I can look at it through my windows. Thank goodness I don’t have a job and I can stay home.

Its also nice to enjoy the different seasons. My favorite time of year is Autumn. Winter can be long and stressful but then we have Spring look forward to.

  5. The temperature topped out at 64 degrees F this afternoon up on Compounce Mountain in Wolcott, CT. Not bad for the second day of winter!

    Happy Holidays and 73,
