One More Thing Mr. Fox

Everything’s set for my surgery Thursday… or so I thought. I got a call this morning from the doctor’s office. There was something on my stress test that didn’t look right. My heart health is pretty important since I’ll be in surgery a long time.

“Can you see the cardiologist today?”

I’m past the point of waiting for appointments or making them. I am commanded and sent! The gears are turning and everything must be ready by Thursday.

The cardiologist said my stress test showed a potential blockage of the ‘widowmaker’ artery.

Note to medicine: Find a new term, please.

Most likely my blockage is a false positive, but before they carve me up they need to know 100%. An angiogram has been scheduled for tomorrow. A tube will be snaked from my wrist into the artery. Pictures will be taken. A better diagnosis will be made.

No eating tomorrow morning. I’ll be hungry because I’m already scheduled to clean out my system later tonight. It’s gonna be a long day.

  4. Hi Geoff,
I just wanted to thank you for all of the support that you always gave me when we were together at 8. You were there for me during some of my darkest days and it meant more than you’ll ever know. I have so many great memories of talking about our radio days at your weather center. I’ll never forget how you paid extra attention to Cody and Sunny. You had both of them on camera with you at least once! I used to marvel at the way you could sing all of the call letters of different radio stations across the country. Some of my days were really dark and dreary especially when I lost Kelly. But somehow you always brought the sun shining through. Anyways, I just want you to know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers. You have so many friends pulling and praying for you. God bless you my broadcast brother.

  5. Better to safe than sorry Geoff…..I understand the sucky part of not being able to eat and the “cleaning out” joy! All important stuff…but a pain the butt. Keep us posted on your test! Keeping fingers crossed its just a false positive!

  6. Oh Geoff, So sorry this is all happening to you. Sometimes life really sucks. My thoughts and prayers are with you constantly, even though I don’t post here often. Angiogram are interesting, at least for me, I was awake for it. I pray it is just a false positive. You’ll do fine. Sending lots of good vibes your way. When feeling overwhelmed, just think of your sweet Dopplers face.

  7. Hi Geoff! Today is my birthday today, yay! Yet, you’ve been in my heart today! I worked as an MCR operator at WTNH from 1996 to 1998. My time at WTNH ended with my first heart attack on the 4th of July at age 42. During my rehab, KRON San Francisco called me and wanted me to work for them. Though it was only two years working with you, SallyAnn and Dr. Mel, three incredible personalities I have had the honor to know, I can never forget. I have been reading the Permanent Record forever. I love you, Geoff! After three heart attacks and one stroke, and I was at death’s door twice, I am still here at age 61, working, feeling great, and loving life. You have poise and courage, and that’s why thousands like me love you. Just keep your eye on the prize, do what the doctor’s tell you, and put your faith in their hands, and stay positive. You can beat this cancer, people do succeed against this cancer, they do, and I believe in you! We need you to keep giving us words of wisdom on the Permanent Record for years to come. Again, love you Geoff. Now go get this thing, and WIN! 😀 <3

  8. Prayers and good thoughts. It sounds like your doctors are right on the ball, be grateful for that.. you are right you need a healthy heart to go through that Whipple procedure. You know how times flies… and in a week it will all be behind you and you will be well on your way to recovery. Keep blogging, it will help. Prayers for your wife because no one goes through cancer alone. <3

  9. If it’s not one thing it’s another! We’ll all be praying that that it is a false positive and your surgery proceeds as scheduled.
Amen to what Sandi ^^ says – prayers for Helaine and Steph as they stand by

  10. Agreed. Doctors ‘terminology’ could use some humanizing! Prayers and positive thoughts to you this week, and always! Go kick some butt!! Hugs from CT!

  11. Geoff, Ugggh! I’m so furious at facebook. For some reason your posts about your diagnosis & surgery did not make my feed until this one (odd one, that, not sure why facebook thought this was more relevant than the others) and I learned all about your situation completely chronologically backwards. So, I apologize for clueing in so late. OK, now that I’m all caught up, please know that we have a small but powerful group of prayer warriors who will be lifting you up here in Beacon Falls, CT! May our Great Physician guide your doctor’s hands and bring you healing. PEACE to you and your beautiful family. Warmly, Liza

  12. Wish I had seen this last night. I’ve had 2 catheterizations and while none are ever a slam dunk, if you’ve got a great interventionalist cardiologist, they’re a piece of cake. Glad they’re going through the wrist, the recovery time is hours instead of days as it is for the groin. You’re lucky this has been discovered (if there is a blockage) sooner rather than later. Better to sort all this out ahead of time. =:-o

Best of luck to you today.

  13. We’ve been praying for you.
Keep good thoughts. Look at your father for strength. We will keep praying for you. Hopefully by Sunday you will have good news, and be on the road to recovery.

  14. Thinking of you Geoff. Just heard the latest.
There has not been a weather forecaster I have
really liked since you left WTNH. I am praying
for you. You can beat this! Try to stay positive.
I know it’s easier said than done. Please
keep us updated. Hang in there!

  15. Praying for you Geoff and still missing you from ch 8. You have the support of your wonderful family and your fans. God be with you

  16. I was wondering how I could get word to you that you’d be in my prayers tomorrow (9/8). Wasn’t expecting your entry. Better they find out now than on the table, or immediately after. In a way it is de ja vu—I had to have angioplasty, then by pass surgery after flunking pre-op tests for a breast biopsy. That was in 2001. That was the year you had spoken about the non invasive procedure for breast biopsy (the mammotome (?sp.). My husband wrote to you and got the info,. In the end, that was what I chose and things have been fine. So—hang in there, as will your prayer warriors here on the East Coast. Keep us posted.
