Qwest Was Right

Cousin Michael Fox stopped by last night. Among the things we discussed, this commercial from 1999. You probably understand what this spot is getting at now. Did you have a clue in ’99? This ad predates Netflix and YouTube.

Qwest itself got into trouble during the telecom implosion. They were, however, right in where we were headed.

Companies like Qwest are responsible for lots of the bandwidth we have today. Unlike cable, laying dozens of strands of fiber at once hardly changes the economics (or weight). Much of America’s potential bandwidth is ‘dark’ today because it was put in long before it was needed. That means decades of future growth is already installed and waiting.
