Are we not dog friendly? Did Ivy leave some secretive exposé, only released beyond the grave?
Today, finally, we were taken up on our offer. Helaine's friend Amy dropped off Sydney.
Sydney is 12 years old and a cross between a beagle and another breed, not strong enough to overcome beagle length legs.
As a young dog, Sydney was sedentary. Now, as a grown up, Sydney is a master of preserving her energy by staying motionless for hours. She came with an oversized, rectangular, dog mattress. It's in the family room now. When I get home from work, I guarantee it will be at the foot of our bed.
Scratch Sydney's back and you'll come away with another full dog's worth of fur! Though I have to admit, she has a very soft and smooth coat.
Amy brought Sydney over with a full page note. Slacker! Helaine used to prepare 4-5 page 'care and feeding' notes for Ivy.
This will be a good time for Sydney. Helaine and Steffie (and I) will cater to her every need. Helaine says she might never leave the house or let Sydney out of her sight.
That only sounds like she's kidding if you don't know Helaine.
This dog will live one helluva "mondo cane¹" at our place. However, just in case, I've already gotten her paw print on a non-disclosure agreement.
¹ - Though Google will translate this from Italian as "world dog," the idiomatic translation is "dog's life." There was a movie in the early 60s named, "Mondo Cane." It's stuck out in my mind, and so I've used it here. Trust me, Sydney's life has nothing to do with that movie.

I was wrong. When I came home from work last night Sydney was not at the foot of the bed. She was at the side of the bed. One false step from Helaine in the middle of the night and... well, you can draw your own conclusions.
I woke up long after Helaine, Sydney and Steffie. By that time Sydney had already missed another meal. There was medication to take, which Helaine wrapped in a piece of cheese.
As a cloud of dog fur fell off Sydney, I rubbed her back. I've never met a dog who didn't crave this, including Sydney.
I knew I was in trouble when both Helaine and Steffie asked why Sydney's picture was not yet in the blog? What was I waiting for - New Years?
I went to search out Sydney for her daily beauty shot. I found her, but not in any of her normal spots.
I wanted to take my daily photo of Sydney, so I moved behind her with my camera. Slowly, she turned her head to catch a glimpse of what was going on.
As I approached Sydney to take today's picture, she was licking her paws. I would guess this is the dog equivalent of biting one's nails. This is the only vaguely bad behavior I've seen from Sydney.
Helaine (and by proxy Steffie) treat all animals like children. And, if the animal should be doing something wrong, that animal will be told - no matter where or when.
I woke up this morning, turned on the TV and saw New Years celebrations from Australia. At the bottom of the screen it said, "Happy New Year Sydney."
I came downstairs and took two quick shots. As usual Sydney is in the energy preservation mode.
