It’s Blossom Time In Connecticut

My 33.1 mile drive to work is mostly Interstate and mostly boring. Sorry Meriden, Cromwell, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield. I-91 isn’t your most picturesque corner! Luckily there’s still the first 8 or 9 miles of the trip!

My route takes me up River Road, behind Sleeping Giant and then through Wallingford to the Wilbur Cross Parkway.

I slow down nearly every afternoon as I take the left from Mansion Road to Blue Hills Road and cut through the center of Blue Hills Orchard.

It’s sad all winter. The apple trees are bare. They stand silently in neat rows. It’s as if they’re in line at the DMV.

Last week the apple blossoms appeared. It happened quickly. It seems like it happened overnight.

All of a sudden the trees have purpose. I love spring.

It will be a while before these blossoms produce edible fruit. Apples aren’t ready for picking for a while.

I look forward to watching them grow.

I’m not sure it’s possible to capture the idyllic feel of this beautiful spot. I did my best.

I tweak my route to work from time-to-time. I’m looking to shave seconds. I’m looking to stave off boredom. That’s how I ended up on Blue Hills Road in Wallingford.

Most of this part of Wallingford is residential, but Blue Hills Road cuts through a sizable apple orchard.

Yesterday was beautiful enough for me to stop the car, get out (angering a dog leashed to a nearby home) and start shooting toward the east. I’m not sure it’s possible to capture the idyllic feel of this beautiful spot. I did my best.
