Depressing Weather

By late Sunday, it had started to sprinkle. This morning (OK, it was early afternoon) when I woke up, the rain was steadier. No flooding was indicated. Still, we got nearly 2″ here! It’s still raining and will be for a few more hours.

April will be remembered as soggy – at best.

I’m not sure how to quantify it, but the last 12-15 months have been the worst stretch of weather I can remember. I say this knowing full well that the winter started like gangbusters, but was nothing special in the aggregate as far as temperature and snow were concerned.

It just seems like we’re always looking a gray skies, and colder than normal temperatures, and wind. Lots of wind. This past year has been significantly windier than normal.

Today, in California, new records were set as the thermometer passed 100&#176 in the Los Angeles area. Compared to what we’ve had, that doesn’t sound bad. In fact, it’s downright inviting.

Maybe my tolerance level has decreased. I’m not sure. I just know I’m sick of this weather… but there’s not a whole lot I can do.

  1. I agree with you about the dreary weather. Even though today’s nice (Wed.), we never seem to be able to string together enough nice days to make us forget about the lousy ones.

On the other hand, there is something you can do about it. We’re moving to New Mexico! After lifetimes in CT, my wife and I are picking up and retiring to NM. We were there last week and the weather was delightful. The only bad thing is the wind is pretty annoying in the Spring. I check the weather there almost every day and it is consistently better than here. The 7000 foot elevation is a big part of it but there’s also a lot more sunshine. The figure they give is 70% of daylight hours it’s sunny. So a few more months and we’ll be thinking of you from sunny NM.

  2. The most difficult part about our dreary weather in the Spring of 2004 is that we thought we had the summer to look forward to! What summer!?! I kept telling myself it will get here, but today it Aug. 10th and it is 65 degrees!! I need summer to soak up the sun to get me through the Chicago winters….I guess I’ll be taking a little trip to CA this winter to make it bearable.
