Bill O’Reilly

I was browsing Drudge earlier this afternoon when the Bill O’Reilly headlines started showing up.

O’REILLY HIT WITH SEX HARASS SUIT **WARNING: CONTAINS GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS**…

O’REILLY CLAIMS EXTORTION…

O’Reilly: ‘This is the single most evil thing I have ever experienced’…

Who knows what’s really going on? A quick read makes it seem like O’Reilly, knowing these charges were coming, fired a preemptive strike… only to find out his accuser had (it is implied) audio recordings.

Do I know that? Of course not. It’s speculation.

A co-worker of mine pointed out O’Reilly has taken the moral high ground with rappers. In fact, I remember some shows where he was quite indignant. Is there some sort of analogy applicable? I’m not sure.

Meanwhile, whether O’Reilly has or has not done anything untoward, we all have flaws. We have all done things we are not proud of, or would rather not see broadcast.

I’m 54 years old. I haven’t been a grown-up for all 54 of those years.

This story is why shows like “Celebrity Justice” and other tabloids programs can continue to find material day after day after day. It’s also why it’s so difficult to find good people who are willing to subject themselves to the spotlight that politics and celebrity bring.
