Everything’s For Sale I Suppose

Tonight at work Bob Wilson reported on kids playing poker. Interesting story.

A few minutes before he went on, we were discussing Greg Raymer from Connecticut and his big strike in the 2004 World Series of Poker. No one could remember how much he won. Since I was sitting in front a computer at the time, I went to Google and took a look.

The answer was $5 million. Just as interesting was the ad which came up on the right side of the page.

Wow. I wonder if Greg knows?

  1. Geoff,

I was just wondering on the timeliness of your stations poker story. I live in the St. Louis metro area and last night the “cover story” was on “Kids join the poker craze”.

Since your in the media business I was wondering about where these stories come from. It looks, mind you this is just a perception from my end and not a sweeping comment about ones work ethic, but it looks like the idea for this kind of story is not just someone in the news room saying hey here is a good story but one that is thought of by someone (that is the question, who?) and fed down to others. So how do two stations come up with what seems like the same story and then also come out with it on the same timeframe broadcast. Is there some “story pool” that gets picked up by different stations?

    Just curious?

    Love reading your record.

BTW speaking of poker, what is you online poker host of choice?
