Popular Science Gets it Wrong

From the same people who brought you cities of flying cars, wrist video telephones and other badly conceived predictions of the future (OK – I’m ticked) comes Popular Science’s Worst Science Jobs II.

My job made it!

I’ll let you read the article for yourself, but let me just say, it’s absolutely wrong. It is difficult for me to think of a better job. The public – my customers – couldn’t be nicer.

Of course I’m not 100% correct. I wish I was. But, the accuracy I have allows people to make educated choices and avoid weather related problems. If you absolutely must get something done by Friday and I tell you there will probably be snow on Thursday, you have benefited.

If there was one thing I could change tomorrow, I’d wish we were better at snow accumulations. Then I’d wish my 8-day forecast was as accurate as my 2-day forecast. Right now, I’ll take what I can get and improve as quickly as I can.

  1. Wow, those are harsh words indeed… it’s a shame that publications have to publish articles like that to get customers though. You’d think that they’d get better results by focusing on less offensive topics as I’m sure they’ve lost some readers with this one.

  2. A stalling connection and another approaching thunderstorm are conspiring to keep me from reading the article– but I did notice the comment Brian Williams made the other night, when a clip from his early days was shown on one of the late night talk shows. He commented how everyone starts out in weather, etc. He’s okay, but I think I’ll miss Tom.
