So Happy For Rain

I can’t remember a time when so many people have sought me out to tell me how dry it’s been. This summer has been remarkably free of rain.

All around the state lawns are brown. In some cases, normal mid-summer dormancy has been overtaken and the lawn has died outright.

Finally today things changed. Helaine heard it first around 1:00 AM. “Is that rain,” she asked?

Not only was it rain, but it was those oversized convective raindrops that mark summer storms in Florida and the tropics. They weren’t falling on the roof, they were pounding it.

Now we just need it to continue for the next few days. That’s what I’ve predicted… but I can see how it might not necessarily come true.

I so wish I was infallible!
