All About Sleep

This week, more than any other, has just crushed me. It’s not just (briefly) switching to a schedule where I have to wake up at 2:00 AM. It’s that change on top of our visit to Las Vegas, where I stretched my waking hours in Pacific Daylight Time.

Years ago I had a girlfriend who used to describe confused people as not knowing whether it was “Tuesday or Chestnut Street.” Over the years I’ve adopted that little saying as mine. This week, it applies to me.

I can’t remember the last time I had an uninterrupted ‘full night’s sleep.’ It’s three hours here, two hours there, four hours a little later. No matter what I do, I’m soon really tired.

Steffie came home from college last night. This morning she flew to see my folks in Florida. I needed to be up at 5:00 AM to take her to Bradley International. I was up a 3:30. Even with a nap this afternoon, I’m still sluggish.

I have now begun the process to stretch my days so I can be back on Hawaiian time when I return to work Tuesday. Hopefully my body will finally snap back to my normal, abnormal schedule.

I suppose I’m just surprised how physically difficult this is.

  1. Along the same lines as your (old girlfriends’) saying……..”Do you walk to work – or bring your lunch?”……
