End Of An Era In Vegas

And now, they’re gone! Well, at least they’re gone at 99&#162.

Before the hourly Fremont Street Experience started, Helaine took me to the Golden Gate Hotel. This is a Las Vegas tradition… actually more like a legend. You can go to the Golden Gate and get 99&#162 shrimp cocktails!

They were very good. The sauce is strong and tangy. The tiny shrimp are more texture than taste. But, it’s amazing that it’s still 99&#162.

And now, they’re gone! Well, at least they’re gone at 99&#162.

News from me is reporting the price has doubled to $1.99. That’s sad.

You can’t blame them. I’m sure even at $1.99, this is a loss leader. Still, it’s sad to see the end of an era.

They were really tasty.

  1. It really hurt me to raise the price, but I would ask you to keep two things in mind:

    1. It’s been more than 17 years since the last price increase (and 32 years before that)

    2. The price is still 99 cents for Club 1906 members. It’s free to join, and you get a rree deck of Golden Gate cards and 10x points for signing up.

Our goal remains to deliver a quality shrimp cocktail–the best in Las Vegas.

  2. Now I really feel guilty!

No matter what the price, the Golden Gate is a one-of-a-kind that shouldn’t be missed. It represents what Vegas was – not as a museum, but as a living piece of history.

  3. and thank you Geoff and Helaine for turning me onto one of the finer things in Vegas. I look forward to another visit next November!
