Rhododendrons Ready To Bloom

Frank, who takes care of our lawn, asked if I wanted them trimmed? I said it was OK, but he had to do it while Helaine wasn’t watching.

From a plant’s perspective, spring is a blur. From first bloom, to flowering plants and bushes, to mature green, is a matter of weeks. Most of our plants have already shed their flowers.

Among the late bloomers (Wow – when was the last time that phrase was used literally), our rhododendron plants.

Our house was flanked by rhododendrons when we bought it nearly two decades ago. We must have added a few, but not in a long time.

A few years ago the rhododendron’s were getting tall and leggy. Frank, who takes care of our lawn, asked if I wanted them trimmed? I said it was OK, but he had to do it while Helaine wasn’t watching.

I like that about her.

For the next few weeks, the rhododendrons will be our brightest plants. My photos, from today, show the first stages of flowering.

  1. So far, my time lapse has been all shorter duration events. I don’t think I’m ready for the challenge of flowers.
