Who Works Holidays?

So, Monday, if you fly on an airplane, guess who’ll be piloting… and who’ll be running the control tower at the airport?

I am working on Monday, Memorial Day. It’s my choice. I have total seniority at work. It is likely I will be working with lots of our younger staff; people with little seniority.

It’s like that in most jobs, right?

So, Monday, if you fly on an airplane, guess who’ll be piloting… and who’ll be running the control tower at the airport? Ditto, if you have to go to the hospital. These, by-and-large, are the least experienced people.

I’m not sure why I’m even talking about this. There’s little we can do.

Meanwhile, don’t get sick or fly Monday.

  1. Great. I will be flying on Monday … and we have a connection in Houston, so that’s *two* inexperienced crews with our lives in their hands!

    Gee, thanks … 🙂

  2. Geoff,

I work in health care and generally all the staff, physicians, nurses, ancillary staff work on a rotating schedule. Even if you are senior staff, if it is your holiday on, you are working. The same cannot be said for the administrative folks….

  3. I work on holidays because I can use the extra money. Also, food service people are expected to work holidays.
