Daewoo TV Becomes Daewoe TV

Are TV sets even repaired nowadays?

We got our current TV May 8, 2005. Wow–a blog really is life documentation! Our Daewoo widescreen projection set was chosen for its physical size, not its functionality. We had to plug a hole in a wall unit.

A line of strong thunderstorms blew through this morning and blew out part of the set’s functionality. Blue video is no longer linear–instead bowing out and not properly converging with the rest of the picture.

Is this a problem with a discrete component? Is it fixable? Who knows? Are TV sets even repaired nowadays?

At the worst, it’s a weather related insurance claim. It still sucks. Say what you will about the movement toward computer delivered video, we still need our TV.

I actually have my computer hooked up to the TV… Mostly because it’s my DTV tuner as well as giving me the ability to view content on Hulu and Youtube on a larger screen.

  2. Assuming you already went into the tv admin menu and messed with the convergence settings, it could be the digital convergence box – not a terribly expensive part, but not something you want to DIY.
