Sarah Palin On SNL

I was very surprised she looked so wooden and uncomfortable in both hits. This was not her comfort zone.

saturday-night-live.pngI, like much of America I suspect, made sure I was in front of the TV for Saturday Night Live. Sarah Palin did the “cold open” and Weekend Update.

I was very surprised she looked so wooden and uncomfortable in both hits. This was not her comfort zone.

I was trying to think of an analogy–maybe someone from Hogan’s Heroes who sneaks out of the Stalag and ends up at a party with Gestapo officers. Actually, considering the circumstances that’s a pretty good analogy, isn’t it?

  1. I thought she did just fine being in the hostile, liberal atmosphere that is SNL and NBC. If she “lets loose” she is further condemned as being not vice-presidential. If she doesn’t “let loose” then she’s stiff. No matter what she couldn’t win.

  2. Jim,

With any luck, you’ll be able to repeat your last sentence on Nov. 5.

I have no problem with her running mate, but I can’t bring myself to help her be a heart beat away from number 1.

  3. I actually have a problem when someone running for president or vice president decides to do stand-up. I felt uncomfortable watching both McCain and Obama at the Al Smith Dinner–but more so Obama with the manger and awesome lines.

  4. I have never been so undecided in my life. I agree with you Geoff, those comments weren’t really “ok” at the Smith Dinner. Wonder why the press wasn’t more “on” that?

  5. The Al Smith dinner speech requirements are that the speakers tell jokes & use humor – how that plays out is another story. Kerry/Bush did not speak @ the 2004 dinner because Kerry was in a conflict with the dinner’s host, the catholic church, so as a result they didn’t invite Bush.

All that aside, if you want to cringe when a politician tries to tell a joke, just check out any attempt by Dick Cheney over the past 8 years.
