The Economy Is Stupid

I’ve heard lots of complaints about a current credit crunch, but that’s much like heroin addicts complaining when supplies dry up.

The economy has struck close to home. I can’t comment about it here except to say I am disturbed, upset and heartbroken.

The economy is in shambles–like you needed me for that.

A least two things make this recession worse than any I’ve seen before. There’s the impact of the Internet which has put companies with a handful of employees in competition with companies with thousands of employees and there’s the mass hysteria which 24 hour cable and net news have created.

Yeah–I think it’s mass hysteria… even if a little hysteria might be warranted.

What we now have is a situation where everyone is trying to cut as quickly as possible so expenses fall on pace with revenues. Of course the hidden danger of that is job cuts just accelerate the recess… oh hell, let’s just call it a depression and get over the semantics.

I’ve heard lots of complaints about a current credit crunch, but that’s much like heroin addicts complaining when supplies dry up. That’s not to say there isn’t real pain. It’s just some of it is self inflicted and now affecting innocents, like employees. The crunch is crunchiest when you’re already heavily leveraged and over extended.

I wish I had a solution. I wish someone had a solution. That’s the one thing missing. People aren’t usually shy about expressing opinions, yet in all the speeches and statements I’ve yet to hear anyone say, “here’s the way out.”
