The dog is still weeks from coming home. There are preparations that must be taken. Helaine and I went looking for a baby gate (As opposed to my new name for the whole Octomom affair–Babygate).
I’ve never had a puppy before. I hear they chew… a lot. Roxie will be kept in the mud room which has little for teething.
Our gate search took us to a store with dog accouterments. There were bones and toys and ‘crates’ big enough to board a horse. There were also dog outfits.
“Make sure you start them when they’re young,” a woman said as we looked on. Obviously, as the dog gets older she catches on how ridiculous clothes are.
As we walked away she was looking at bathing suits! Don’t worry Roxie, even we have limits.

please get a solid gate [not the one with the plastic mesh]! Some dogs can easily break those gates and choke on the plastic splinters. Also, may want to invest in a $30 hand-held carpet scrubber/wet vac. We adopted an abused dog a couple of years ago and had to try and crate train her. She was able to break the hard steel bars out with her teeth. Good luck.
Hi Geoff, love the pics of the little “Foxie-Doxie. I was listening to a radio program on pets just yesterday and the host was stating that the only dog that should never be allowed to climb up and down stairs is the daschund. Their elongated spines are prone to injury…their bodies just aren’t built for stairclimbing….so it sounds like that baby gate you picked up is going to come in very handy 🙂 Can’t wait to see more pics one you get her home.
