Advice For Stef

The deleted name is a famous funny person who obviously isn’t as well thought of by others in the ‘biz’. The name was a surprise to me. It’s now my juicy secret.

This weekend as Stef thought about the new job she would start today she received some unsolicited advice from my friend Howard–a talent manager and producer in L.A. If I began to name the folks he’s discovered you’d stop me well before the halfway point. He’s got the eye.

I’m going to censor it a little… but:

Tell her to be in a hurry…learn….everything ..its not brain surgery….remember everyone’s name….and never say she doesn’t know how to do somethng….if she doesn’t …..someone will be happy to teach her….but never say no and never let them see you sweat and never turn into Xxxxx Xxxxx.

I’m including Howard’s advice because it really does cut to the essence of how those starting out can get ahead. He’s 100% correct. Feel free to use it… but not in competition with my daughter.

  1. I would also add what was written on a piece of paper I found taped on the wall over my desk when I started my first real job after college:

“Beware of accomplishing the impossible — it will be added to your list of regular duties.”

Truer words were never spoken. 🙂
