Ugh! Today Is A Sign Winter’s Coming

By the time this day is done Mother Nature will have pruned the trees of branches, leaves and acorns.

leaves in the driveway_1.jpgI am conflicted. The good news is my forecast for today was as close to perfect as possible. The bad news is my forecast for today was as close to perfect as possible.

No one could ever confuse today’s weather with summer. Even without cold temperatures all signs point toward cold. There is no turning back from our inexorable march toward winter.

Geez–it’s depressing to even think about this.

We started with rain and a southwesterly breeze. Now the Sun is shining and temperatures are close to 70&#176. Unfortunately, the 500 pound gorilla in the room is wind–dryly northwest and gusting to around 40 mph. Summers don’t have extended periods of gusty sunshine. Winters do!

By the time this day is done Mother Nature will have pruned the trees of branches, leaves and acorns. CL&P is already reporting over 15,000 powerless customers. They’re in small clusters–a handful here, a dozen there. There will surely be more spotty outages as large limbs continue to fall on wires. The day is young.

Tomorrow, when the wind dies down, it won’t take more than one look at the leaf littered ground to know where we’re headed.

  1. I know you are not a fan of winter. I’m originally from upstate New York and as soon as the cool fall weather comes in I become a much happier person. Back to my roots 😉
