Blue Skies Hide The Coming Storm

This storm looked larger a few days ago. It looked colder too. Now it seems it will mix rain and snow near the shore and drop under six inches through most of inland Connecticut.

sunny-february-monday-afternoon.jpgThe Sun is shining brightly this early Monday afternoon. The day is even brighter as the sunlight reflects off what’s left of last week’s snow. I’m glad I wasn’t doing my job forty years ago. They probably would have written off the little storm we’ll get tonight! No one could possibly expect snow 12 hours after this blue sky.

It doesn’t look like a major deal–though the criteria for major reaction to any storm has come down a lot over the last forty years!

At the moment I am like a puppy who shies away from the newspaper because he was once hit with it. I’ve had some snowy troubles. I remember. Still, I have a job to do and I still claim diligence.

It also looks like most of the storm will be on the ground at wake-up time. The great leap-of-faith, the canceling of schools before the flakes fly, gets taken away. No one’s unhappy about that–certainly not me.

I have not gone about my forecasting chores any differently than in the past. I’ve got the same maps, charts and numbers from the same computer guidance. The science works most of the time and hopefully it will work tonight.
