This NEVER bodes well!
The photo below is from September 26, 1985. I remember the suit. It was silk. I loved that suit.
There is one part of that photo I forgot. The prediction was for tropical storm, not hurricane strength, winds¹. Somehow in the fog of time I thought I’d called for minimal hurricane force. Gloria was absolutely a tropical storm when it hit Connecticut, though it’s probably officially recorded as a hurricane at landfall.
¹ – We had AccuWeather for a short time very much against my will. Trust me. It was a forecast prepared by me.
This was a blast from the past for sure. I was at the height of my motherhood game with young kids and a hammer. I decided to tack up a nice blanket over the southern bedroom window “just in case” the windows were to blow out from the hurricane. I wanted to surprise my husband. I did. I put the hammer thru the window. He told the window repairman it was Hurricane Evi.. Not Hurricane Gloria… Good times…
