My Wicked Pissah Father’s Day

Father’s Day is still weeks away, but last night on our drive from the airport Helaine revealed my gift.

I am tough to buy for. When there’s something I want it’s usually specific and esoteric like a lens or motherboard. At the moment there’s really nothing I want/need. Father’s Day is still weeks away, but last night on our drive from the airport Helaine revealed my gift.

“You said you wanted to see the Phillies out-of-town.”

Helaine was right. While snow was on the ground I’d scoured the Phils schedule looking for an opportune weekend in some city served by Southwest.

And then she told me–we’re going to Fenway this weekend. The Phils play the Sox in an interleague series. We’ve got tickets for Saturday and Sunday.

I am VERY excited.

The forecast isn’t perfect, but our seats are in the grandstand under cover. It doesn’t make much difference. Fenway is a special place. It’s like a beautifully restored and loved masterpiece.

Cameras and video cameras are permitted inside Fenway Park, but cannot be used to reproduce the game and must not interfere with other fans’ enjoyment of the game.

Clicky’s coming too!

  1. Oh, wow. *ENVY*. It’s been years since I’ve been to Fenway, after a stretch of several consecutive years where a bunch of us would go up for a weekend and see 2 or 3 games in a row. (We would also go down to Camden Yards to see the Sox play the Orioles for another weekend. That’s another must-see ballpark, if you haven’t been there yet.)

The coolest thing ever was the day my friend Susan Werner sang the national anthem before a game. She was given 10 tickets and her group was invited to join her VIP tour of Fenway after sound check. We got to sit in the home dugout, go on top of the Green Monster, and even go inside the scoreboard — during batting practice, which is how I know *exactly* how loud it is in there when someone like Manny Ramirez blasts a line drive off the wall. 🙂

You’re going to have a great time.

  2. I’ll be there on sat. 2nd game at fenway this year hope it doesn’t rain i’m down lower and in the open

    1. This will be Helaine’s first (and second) trip there. I hope she likes the place as much as I do… and that the Phillies sweep.

  3. I must admit the iPhone 4 has turned my head. If Helaine or Stef would like my current model I’d trade up. Otherwise, I can wait.

  4. Geoff,
Do I envy you for those games!!! My cousin used to play on the red sox, and even when he did, I never went to see him play at Fenway. I was a teenager then and my dad was a Yankees fan. But I always watched the red sox and especially when they played at home at the green monster.
Have fun Sat and Sun when you go to those games and enjoy every minute.
btw: who was my cousin: Carl Yastrzemski
