You Know What We Did Sunday?

To a parent with children at home a “day off” is a luxury that doesn’t exist–a fantasy.

I like to say this to married couples with kids.

“You know what we did Sunday? We spent the whole day on the couch in our pajamas.”

Stings doesn’t it?

To a parent with children at home a “day off” is a luxury that doesn’t exist–a fantasy.

It started with t-ball then softball. I spent many Saturday mornings running the clock as Stef played in a basketball league. She played sports through high school. Each game was attended by a parent or parents.

My daughter lives in L.A. now. This weekend she’s gone to Vegas with friends. My supervisory powers are no longer needed by her.

Helaine had a few errands Saturday afternoon, but I’m hoping she takes the rest of the weekend off. It’s good to take the weekend off. We’ve earned it.

  1. Now that our daughters are grown and the house is empty we’re in that wonderful place as well. The pets have long since passed away as well so we enjoy our freedom and quiet. All decisions are made on a whim without restrictions. It’s wonderful. But baby sitting our grandsons is the new task at hand which is great to be able to do…but we get to send them home and return to serenity!

    Truer words were never spoken.

  3. Oh wait. Let me rub the redness from my eyes.
The 4:30am “daddy I need water” call came and went from the 5 yr old, the alarm went off at 6:15 to get to an 8:00am travel soccer tourney for the 11 yr old. Home now, but the 100lb Bernese mountain dog needs a big walk, kids are with mom at Wally world, lawn needs care too. Game time 1:00pm for last game of tourney. Sleepover with BFF starts after final whistle. Quick BBQ at friends then off to bed because 15 years service doesn’t get you every holiday off….

Hey Geoff! Go to hell!!!!!! Just kidding….enjoy!

  4. We drove our daughter to Salve Regina for her first day of College Yesterday. It was really tough Geoff. Everybody agrees with you Geoff, but it doesn’t make it any easier as I write this with tears in my eyes.
