End Of The Line

I’ve known this day was coming for a while.

For the last 9780 days I’ve been employed by WTNH, Channel 8. Tonight at midnight that run ends. 26 years, 9 months, 8 days — that’s a long time! For some of you reading this it’s more than your lifetime.

I’m sure there will be things to say, just not right now.

I’ve known this day was coming for a while. Though I haven’t worked in a few months it’s still significant and I’m feeling a little empty inside.

Many of you have asked about my plans. They’re still up in-the-air, but I expect some resolution sooner rather than later. Trust me, you’ll know.

  1. This got me teary eyed Geoff. I do not know you personally, however your blogs make me wish I did. Last nights channel 8 broadcast of the recent weather trends was just another dagger and most certainly may not have been their intent but I could not help but think it was another slap in the face. Dish Network by the way is not renewing its contract with channel 8 due to Lin.

  2. We still can’t believe you’re no longer on the WTNH newscast, Geoff. While we’ve moved on to another channel we kept hoping that they would change their minds. Our hope now is that you will find a new home in the CT/NY area so you can re-join us in the evenings!

  3. I actually can sympathize with your feelings at this time. Almost 2 years since I went through the same thing. Worked for a company for 16 years and thought I would be retiring before I stopped. Now I find myself as a mature adult starting over yet again. Good luck to you Geoff. We are all hoping you stay in Connecticut but totally understand if things take you elsewhere. Hoping we can get a weather accurate weather report from you off and on too!

  4. I suspect a lot of us have been thinking about the meaning of this date – it’s a very sad end to an incredible run. But you’ve been so much a part of so many lives that you’ll always be there. I hope we’ll be able to watch wherever you go, but I’m sure we’ll always be in your fan club. And I hasve to say the way you’ve handled all of this has been beyond classy – unlike your former employers.

  5. Yes, I haven’t been alive for that long, however I’ve watched you since I’ve been old enough to. I really miss you being on-air, and since I’ve been following you on Facebook for about a year, I know I’m not the only one! I truly hope you will be on TV locally soon, but if not I hope you find happiness somewhere new. Or even doing something different! 26 years is a LONG time to be in one place and I know you’ve expressed that our support has helped in the transition, I really hope it has. I haven’t watched News8 since I heard about about your contract not being renewed, not offense to the others on-air, I just watched because of you, so I’ve switched channels. I still don’t feel “at home” with it yet though. My thoughts are with you, and I wish you all the best no matter which path you choose!

  6. I tried but have no desire to watch WTNH any longer. You have so much going for you with personality alone nevermind your resume. You’ll find something wonderful soon so Don’t go to Sleep Yet! 🙂

  7. I was at the gym today and they have this line of HDTV’s in front of the treadmills. On one of them is WTNH, and while I didn’t have headphones hooked up, I noticed they were running an advertisement for the new weather team. I almost threw up. The new faces look so bland. And then there’s Dr. Mel lumped in with them at the end.

I’m sure the new guys are Just Fine(tm) at what they do, and I don’t mean to degrade them for simply accepting a job, but the whole commercial did nothing more than reinforce how I feel about the station.

I also observed that WPLR seems to be pretty cozy with WFSB as of late… A couple times I noticed they had talent from over there on the morning show, along with ads for things in association with 3. Forever I’ve been used to them being buddies with WTNH. Interesting. 🙂

  8. If it’s any consolation, Geoff, “empty” is the exactly the right feeling. That means you’ve drained out all the bad stuff and now you’re ready to fill yourself with wonderful stuff. Scientifically proven – empty is the beginning of full. Go get ’em, Geoff!

  9. {{hugs}} It is a very hard time now, but your talent will bring you to another place. I’m hoping that place is somewhere close by so that I can have some confidence again in the forecast and smile at your endearing personality, but whatever is best for you will be best for me. Know that we are all thinking of you today……..

  10. Thinking of you, Geoff. I believe that your greatest opportunity lies ahead. It’s always hard when you think of it as a door closing, instead think of it as step forward. It must be odd to have so many friends you haven’t ever met, but we know you and are rooting for you! I’m not going to sleep yet 🙂

  11. It would be nice to honor you with some sort of event, Geoff. We’ve been gypped out of that by small minds who don’t deserve loyalty and know-how. It has been a long cold winter without you. We’ll all be excited to learn of your next gig. From now on, Feb. 28th will be Geoff Fox Day in CT, as far as I’m concerned!

  12. Geoff – hope you still realize how many of us miss your talent and your joy. You have a fabulous fan base which you’ve worked hard to achieve. Wishing you great contentment in the next chapter and we hope we can share that with you!

  13. Geoff – When you’ve been with one employer for a long time, it is tough when that final day comes…but more importantly is that starting tomorrow you have a new beginning and a lifetime of new opportunities for you and Helene. Grab the brass ring when it shows itself and go where your head and heart directs you to travel…that will be the greatest of all adventures. Don’t morn the past – celebrate it along with your long list of accomplishments and contributions. In the the words of Robert Frost:

Robert Frost (1874–1963). Mountain Interval. 1920.

    The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; 5

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same, 10

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back. 15

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

-Best to you and your family…the best is yet to come! 🙂

  14. “Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear.” Geoff, I hope that you find your “pot of gold” in Connecticut. There is a BIG void when I watch the weather now and Connecticut will never be the same unless you return to the “air waves” here. I’m not very good at saying good bye…so I will just say…so long for now….and I will keep the light on for you. In this internet age….we are never very far apart…no matter. In the mean time…I wish you and your family the very best.

  15. Geoff,

I didn’t realize how much I was a fan of yours until WTNH chose not to renew you. It was then I realized you were an indelible part of the landscape that I just didn’t even think to question. You not there just seemed so wrong. I never expected my local news watching experience to be so shaken just because of the disappearance of the weather man. But it was. WTNH, I fear will live to regret their choice. I have stopped watching them, for I feel betrayed. And wherever you go sir, so shall I. For your spirit, and the time we’ve spent together. You in my TV, me watching you there. Just feels right. Best of luck.

  16. It is a sad day in Connecticut! I also know the feeling being tossed out of a job after 28 years, it is an empty feeling and despite the times of depression we need to be strong! You are a great meteorologist and I hope you wind up in Connecticut or where ever a new boss will appreciate you.

  17. Geoff,
You have been a part of my life for that entire 26 years. Forgive me but I also feel rather empty inside knowing that you will no longer be the familiar face that tells me “don’t go to sleep yet”. I wish you and your family only the best. You are a true class act sir. God bless!

  18. Geoff, Thank you for sharing your passion for science, meteorology, and general cool stuff with my family for all these years. We will continue to follow you, whatever your adventures. Take care and many blessings to you and your family. Thank you for being a part of our lives.

  19. Good luck to ya Geoff. I always thought you were great. I always told my friends you were like the neighbor next door, just a nice guy. Keep us posted,,,,Thanks for all those years,,,,Jimbbo

  20. Geoff, you are synonymous with weather in CT. No one will take your esteemed place and your work place shouldn’t have been pulled from under you. It’s unbelievable that all your fans don’t make a difference to your employer. WTNH had a gold mine, now they just have the news and weather – BORING!

  21. Southern Connecticut is going to miss you dearly. I hope another CT station is smart enough to scoop you up. You have quite a large fan base that would definitely follow you anywhere!!!! If Connecticut isn’t in your future…I wish you health, happiness and smiles. I, too, know the feeling of being pushed out the door. Just remember, what goes around, comes around. Unfortunately, others will suffer for the management’s untimely decision. You will be missed.

  22. Best of luck to you Geoff, at least it isn’t goodbye because there is still the website. I’d be anxious to see their ratings during the next ratings period because I think that they have really shot themselves in the foot.

  23. Nothing to add to that which has already been so eloquently expressed, except to wish you the best and hope that we are seeing you soon. I feel a double loss – not having you to provide the weather in your inimitable style, and no longer using WTNH as my local news source.

Hoping something wonderful comes your way.

  24. You started at the station a few months before I got married to another Brooklyn man (who went to Polytechnic University, next to your old high school) I don’t watch the weather on TV any longer. I tried switching to the other local stations but the weather delivery was somehow flat. I now get my weather on line, cold and impersonal though it may be. You’re the best. Hugs.

  25. {{{{{Geoff}}}}} Best of luck in your future endeavors. I look forward to seeing you on tv again soon and in the meantime will keep up with you online.

    Don’t go to sleep yet!!

  26. Geoff
As I’ve said before you were always the best that channel 8 had to offer. I am no longer watching any news casts on WTNH and sincerely look forward to hearing of your new plans. Hopefully in our viewing area. For now I am truly enjoying your blog and intend to follow it from now on. It is very enjoyable and in keeping with informative and cheerful personality. Kudos to you for handling this challenge with such grace and class! Godspeed

  27. I guess we can go to sleep now, but I hope it is a short nap, rather than a long winters’ nap. I miss you, Geoff, Connecticut misses you. Best wishes to a stellar on air personality!

  28. Those 9780 are equal to my junior high graduation my hs graduation my college graduation my marriage and my 3 children. So as you can imagine I basically grew up with you in my house every night since I was 14!!! Good times…Bad times…. You are missed !

  29. Geoff, you are an example to all of us. You could’ve really been negative towards your former employers but you reacted with class and grace. I can’t say I am surprised, though, because all through your career and your blog, you truly are an excellent individual. You’ve given tirelessly to the community, the state and your many friends. I am so proud to be a “Geoff Fox Fan!” Love, Evi

  30. A very sad day, indeed! It is “that stations” MAJOR loss and your next employers MAJORLY HUGE gain! I’d say “good luck Geoff”, but you won’t need it! You’ll be greatly missed!

  31. Geoff – all the best to you as you embark on the next leg of your journey. Only brighter things lay on the horizon. I’ve watched you for most of those 9780 days and enjoyed your honesty, your professional demeanor and even your geek side. Good luck in whatever lies ahead. Oh and just FYI, I’ve been at my job 9912 days today – now see what you started?

  32. Much gratitude for your hard work, Geoff. You put your heart into it and maybe that’s why the heart aches a bit. I hope what follows next will bring you professional satisfaction your family happiness. Peace.

  33. Geoff–you will be missed. Terribly. I wish you all the best and hope that wherever you continue your career, you and your family will be happy, healthy and prosperous. If that place is Connecticut I will jump for joy. Keeping my fingers crossed . . .

  34. Jeff,
I have been a fan of yours for as long as I can remember. My greatest memory is taking kids I was babysitting for to Stephanie’s 3rd or 4th bday, it was the one she got a dog. Anyhow, I remember leaving the house thinking that you were just as genuine in person as you were on TV, it wasn’t any tv personality act, it was the real you. I have seen that everyday for many many years and have no doubt that will take you exactly where you want to be in this life. They say everything happens for a reason, sometimes we may never know what those reasons are, but trust that there is one and you my friend will be much better for it.
    Good luck and god bless

  35. Well Jeff we fought the good fight. Just remember they are the ones losing not you. They say when one door closes another one opens. I am sure the next door for you will be a better door than the one that closed behind you. You are and always be a gentleman you made me laugh, sometimes I even grew short with you. On one New Years Eve you made a resolution that to day still makes me laugh. You said “Oh by the way I made my first New Years resolution and this is it. “I promise not to hedge anymore when I give the weather report”, well there and then I never became short with you. I will miss you if go where we won’t get the channel. Good luck, have a wonderful life and keep us posted as to where you will be going.

  36. Ok, So I just read all of these beautiful posts to you, and sit here crying. So sad. You are loved. I’m sure you feel that. You have been a blessing to Channel 8 and to all of your viewers. I haven’t watched you for the full 20+ years, but have enjoyed and appreciated you all the while. You will have better circumstances come your way, for sure. I had a sentence run across my screen today say that Channel 8 will not be run on Dish anymore as of March 2011. Not sure why. However, I want you to know my family wishes we still watched you every night. God Bless your family and prayers for something better in the near future. Know you are loved Sir, and look forward with your chin up!! — Julie

  37. This is only the begining! Time is of the essence! We all know you will land soild on both feet. Even though you feel hollow inside a little because of this, DON’T it will let them win.
You will prevail in a much bigger and better way.
Somtimes I think these cuvre balls life throws at us are there to shake you up! Back you off the plate. But then you come back ready to swing even harder.
Geoff we will miss you even more than you will miss us.
Keep us in the loop and I will look forward to you as a guest on Bruce Barbers show!
    God speed !
Now get out there and whip up a storm!

  38. Geoff…Thanks for the past 20 years. When I first moved to CT, it was because of you that I made WTNH my “go to” channel. It felt like you were a part of our family and we were a part of yours. We loved when Ivy visited. We celebrated your garden yield with you. We were watching when you flew through a hurricane and when you went weightless. My daughter grew up with you giving us more than just the weather forcast. You brought science to life every day. She’s a biochemistry and molecular biology major in college now – a scientist. You will be missed.

  39. Geoff,

All the best for something great coming your way in a short while.
Having sampled the other local stations, and while there are many fine forecasters. none have brought the same enjoyment to their weather reports as you did.

    You are missed.

  40. Geoff, you’ve been a great weather host all these years. I always told my wife that you are one of the great ones in broadcasting. You will be sorely missed but I know you will rise to the occasion and find something better.

I am gonna miss you guy! {But I have to admit Rachel Frank’s better lookin’]

  41. Geoff,

I found your blog because you were “my” weatherman – I literally based my decision to do my homework on what you said on many a winter evening! Many blessings, wherever you may end up. Please continue to blog…You’re a gifted writer, and someone I read on a daily basis, both because your content interests me a great deal (I love tech, photography, and politics) and because I enjoy your writing style!

  42. Just found out your situation from Arizona where I moved in June. I am sorry to hear this. I always watched when you were on. Best wishes on a new job even better than the last!

  43. Geoff,

We were hoping for a final farewell on Channel 8 – Cannot believe they would not let a simple farewell into their plans. I have stopped watching 8 since the announcement of your contract not being renewed and will never go back. Hope you can stay in CT – we love and miss you – if not, we understand and will follow your blog wherever you may go.

    Best wishes

  44. You’re a very talented person, and for sure you’ll end up doing something you really enjoy. You’ve touched a lot of us and we’ll miss you.
All the best to you and your family.

We all can go to sleep now.

  45. February 28, 2011

    Dear Geoff,
Well it is almost 12:00 p.m. and I am so teary eyes right now. This means you won’t be on channel 8 anymore. I do miss seeing you and I feel empty inside but I know one day I will be seeing you soon on t.v. again. I hope for the best for you and your family. I never thought I would feel this way though I don’t know you personally but I feel I do in away.
I couldn’t wait to watch you on t.v. and I would turn channel 8 on when 5:00 p.m. comes on and again 11:00 p.m. and when there were bad weather around. May you find what you are searching and hope it will be t.v. again. I am going to miss hearing the phrase “don’t go to sleep yet”. I hope no one take that away from you. When one door closes another one opens. Good luck Geoff and to your family. Sadly typing this tears come down my face and hoping we will be seeing you again soon. Good Luck!

    Sheena
    (Waterbury,CT)
    P.S. It is 12:00 now!:(

  46. Geoff,

Growing up there were many winter school days that I watched you and prayed you would tell me “no school tomorrow”. Whether or not that particular prayer was answered, my family always relied on you to give us the most accurate and most entertaining forecast. To a kid (who basically thought the news was boring) you made weather fun. As I grew up I continued to watch you give accurate, entertaining weather. You being missing from the Channel 8 team is a great loss. However I can only believe that this means bigger and better things are in store for you and your family. Best of luck to you in the future and thanks for all the great broadcasts!

  47. Dear Mr. Fox,

I didn’t realize how important you were to my nightly routine until you were unceremoniously yanked from it. Selfishly, I continue to hope you will land on another local station so that I can re-discover that little piece of comfort that I so took for granted. On the flipside, I believe ‘everything for a reason’ and know that whether you’re here, there, near, or far it will be exactly where you are supposed to be. Thank you for 26+ years, can’t wait to see what’s up next!

  48. Thank you Geoff for well, just being you. You are by far my favorite television weatherman ever and I hope you remain here in Connecticut.

You’re a class act which is something that cannot be said for channel 8.

  49. Wherever you go, you will remain an icon of Connecticut meteorology. I for one hope you stay in connecticut only because I will join thousands others who will follow wherever you go.
Keep your chin up. The residents of the state give you back respect, and admiration. That’s way more than what WTNH’s ivory tower gets. You won.

  50. My entire family relied on you for our nightly weather forecast.
Most of them were in shock when I told them the way you were treated
    by WTNH and company.
Please accept our thanks for the many years you allowed us to see
how a forecast should be presented. Never overly dramatic or alarming
    but calm and concise.
    We miss you already!
Best of luck for the future and we hope to be given the opportunity to
    see you again real soon.

  51. ” Fall seven times, stand up eight ”
    – Japanese Proverb
Geoff, I too did not know how much your presence as a pleasant part of my life routine meant to me. For me, you have been a constant, so to speak, providing a link to a time in my life when I was young. I have memories of how my mom enjoyed watching you and how she and I often watched you together.
This morning I felt compelled to write and offer my sincere, good wishes to you and your family as you begin this next phase of your life. Take time, be gentle with yourself and soon, when you are “standing” again, you will do so with new strength, joy and wisdom.
May happiness and desire for fun adventure remain your companions as you take the next steps in your journey. Fare truly well Geoff.

  52. Keep up your spirits Geoff. I am sure something bigger and better will be coming your way soon. I stopped watching WTNH after you were let go, it just isn’t the same without you.

    wendy

  53. Geoff, you’re a classy guy and WTNH isn’t in how they treated you and mislead their audience. Many people are thoroughly disgusted with the management and how they refused to listen to us by shutting down email/facebook responses. You are better off without the affiliation. Take the time you need to unwind and find a new path. Beleive me, it will be better and brighter! Your fans want to hear from you when all has settled, and you are in a “better place”! Prayers are with you as you walk this new path! You are greatly missed. You were a true professional!
    Suzanne

  54. Geoff, Sorry to see you go. I was a plesure watching all these years. The newscast will never be the same.

Hope you find something that you like in the area.

Hope you keep up this website. I like your little stories and
would like to know how you are doing. You are like family.

Good luck to you whatever the future brings.

    Rosalie

  55. Good Morning Geoff,
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. You are truly missed…. but God and the universe have something much better in store for you. The management of WTNH do not deserve a person of your caliber…. and since you get what you give out… their shoddy treatment of you will return to them a thousand fold.

I am so glad you have this site so that we can keep in touch with you and your future. Good Luck Geoff….not that you will need it with your unique and wonderful personality. 🙂

  56. I have to giggle every time I hear those words, “Don’t go to sleep yet..” We have a DVR and USED to record News Channel 8 every night. I’d be quite awake during the introductory stories but not so much by Geoff time. How often did I hear you tell me not to go to sleep and then wake up when Noah was talking? I’d go back and watch you and often fall asleep again!Or I’d hear my husband calling, “Cher. Cher.” (Yes, it’s true — a woman remote handler in this family!!)

It’s funny what you take for granted. I’m just happy I can hear your voice in your writing.

    Cherie

  57. I too knew this day was coming, had it on my calendar from the beginning, hoping to see your one last forecast……. Still does leave us all empty……Selfishly I want yo to stay in CT……but It’s not about what we want……..you will be fine, you ahev what it takes….and hell, maybe we should just all follow you! After this winter, who hasen’t had enough of cold snowy winters!

  58. Geoff,

I like the promise in the last line of your blog….”Trust me, you’ll know.” I’m looking forward to hearing about your next chapter. Sounds like good things are on the horizon for you! You deserve it!

  59. Geoff,
Good luck to you in your future endeavors. You will be sorely missed. I will never again tune into WTNH for ANYTHING. This is a quote I found in a novel, that had a great deal of meaning for me just about a year ago and I think you will appreciate it as well:”I’ve learned a lot this year. I learned that things don’t always turn out the way you planned, or the way you think thay should. And I have learned that there are things that go wrong that don’t always get fixed or get put back the way they were before. I’ve learned that some broken things stay broken, and I’ve learned that you can get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as you have people who love you.” (Jennifer Weiner, author) We will be waiting to hear what you have in the works! When one door closes, another is sure to open, I know!

  60. Geoff, you feel so much like an old friend. And when lousy things happen to your friends, you hurt for them. So we hurt for you. But sometimes the lousy things life throws at us are for a reason. I don’t think you knew how beloved you were. I’m telling you that this happened for a reason. Whatever that reason is will turn out good and true and right for you and the Fox family. Just always remember those of us who love you in Connecticut!

  61. Miss you and your forecasts and would selfishly love to see you on another CT station. Realistically however, do what you ‘gotta do. I’ll continue to check in w/you here.

  62. Geoff

Just wondering – if you get a job outside of Ct could you post it on your website daily. That way we could still watch you and if you were to go somewhere warm – enjoy the warm weather with you.

Still hoping you’ll stay in Ct though so you can guide us through the good and bad weather here.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

  63. With all of this positive energy coming your way, the universe can’t help but open it’s loving arms to you. Your best days are ahead of you. You are dearly loved.

  64. I guess we knew the day would come and hopefully we will see
you on tv soon. I am so mad at channel 8, I have called and
called but they only transfer me to voice mail. I know good
things are coming your way we need your energy on tv. I will
continue to read your blogs and will not be with Channel 8. I
wish I knew where we could go online to see the ratings for the
local stations but don’t know where to go.

  65. Geoff,

You titled this post “End of the Line”.

While I would agree it’s the end of the line for a lot of
WTNH viewers, it’s not the end of the line for you.

    Stupid, stupid management at LIN.

A hand shake to you, for the 9,780 days and the way you have presented yourself to this day. Wishing I had half your class.

    Tom

  66. I hope your feeling of emptiness does not last very long, Geoff. I retired from the Air Force in September, 1999; it was, in my opinion, not a wise choice. I could have stayed on another 6 or 8 years, but family circumstances factored into my decision to retire. After 11 years, 5 months….. I STILL feel empty :-(… not a good feeling!!

  67. We’ve all known this day was coming, but your post still made my cry. While staying “in touch” via your blog and Facebook makes it easier, I still miss your smiling face every night. Hopefully it won’t stay hidden for long!

  68. Geoff, I get where you are. Being at a post for that long involves so many things, not just the job, it’s the relationships built over the years, the commadarie, your identity. You did the best you could do, it’s all anyone could ask. This isn’t your fault. You didn’t do anything wrong. Empty is a good word. You are grieving and understandably so. It’s ok. You will heal and good things will come your way soon. When one door slams shut, another one opens. You are talented and have so much more to offer. Wishing you the best. You will be fine. And look at the support you have! Amazing!

  69. Geoff, May God Bless you and your Family. You will come out on top of the world and you can tell LIN CORP to kiss where the sun don’t shine.

  70. HEY, I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD CALL CHANNEL 8 LIKE I DID TODAY
TO VOICE YOUR OPINION, I SPOKE TO MR. TONY MARIONO AND I TOLD
HIM HOW MUCH I MISS GEOFF AND NOT HAPPY WITH THEIR DECISION.
HE TOLD ME THEY MADE THEIR DECISION AND RATINGS HAVE GONE UP
SINCE GEOFF LEFT(WHICH I CAN NOT BELIEVE) I ALSO ASKED HIM
HOW THE PUBLIC CAN CHECK THE RATINGS AND HE SAID THE ARE CONFIDENTIAL. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS I WILL NOT WATCH CHANNEL
8 NEWS CAST EVER. I AM SO MAD AT THEM.I WANT TO SEE THE RATINGS
HOW CAN THE BE PRIVATE????? ANYONE KNOW HOW WE CHECK.
PLEASE CALL AND ASK TO SPEAK TO MR. MARIONO AND VOICE
KEEP CALLING WE HAVE TO LET THEM KNOW.

  71. Geoff, I have already expressed my thoughts here, on Facebook, and in an email to Channel 8. Thank you for your 26 years at Channel 8. You provided important information in an entertaining way. It was a pleasure to see you every night. I look forward to hearing about your future plans. Hugs to you!

  72. Geoff, just wanted to add my voice to the chorus saying how much you’ll be missed……I found Sunday evenings show somewhat hollow since half of the guys talking weren’t around for all of what they were talking about!!….As to the ads by WTNH, I figure they felt they HAD to because I’ve noticed for quite awhile that both WFSB & NBC30 spotted an opportunity (with Geoff’s departure)and have been running ads hyping their weather teams.

  73. Geoff

As MANY others have noted to Geoff, the best from another of your many fans. I,like many others have noted, that I have now changed my evening viewing habits, surely No More WTNH – as a result of how you were ___’ed!

Will your Blog viewers first learn of your New Opportunity from you, or from Joe Amaranter (NH Register). You previously noted that Joe had the news of your pending departure, from WTNH, within an hour after you learned the pending change

Long term, Geoff Blog follower …

  74. My husband called the channel 8 report it number and said he wanted to report that his weather man was missing. They said I am sorry sir but we can’t comment on it. Geoff you are really missed.

  75. Geoff:

I have stopped watching News 8 because you have left. Besides Gil Simmons and Dr Mel you were the best. I do not believe the ratings went down ever since you left. I wish you the best of luck. And believe me what goes around comes around and News 8 will think twice about what they did to you. Because that new meteorologist Steve M. thinks he is better quality but no one will replace a legend like you. Thank you Geoff for your 26 years

  76. I can’t believe that you posted this yesterday. Just today I asked my daughter if you had a websight (she is much more computer savy than I am) and she looked it up and sent it to me. She asked me why I wanted it and I said ” I miss him and just thought I would let him know”. Geoff, you are really missed, not just as a meteorologist, but as a fine, upstanding, fun loving and charitable individual. I fell in love with your personality from the first day you were on the air. My wish is for you and your family to stay well and I hope to see you soon. Good luck.

  77. You’ve been a gentleman throughout this time, both at work and since your contract wasn’t renewed. You serve as an example for all who have lost thier jobs. A job may be lost, but dignity can remain. Good luck whatever the future brings.

  78. I agree with many of the others…I have no desire to watch WTNH news anymore(except to see Sonia !!)…..you are sadly missed Geoff …..hope you sign on with one of their competitors.

  79. Geoff I miss you! WTNH is just not the same. I’m so sorry and I know you will do well with whatever you choose to do. Thank you for your many years of service.

  80. Channel 8 WTNH used to be my go-to place when looking for local news in Southeastern Connecticut, but that has changed. I tend to go to Channel 3 WFSB now since they also have a reporter, Kevin Hogan, who is somewhat locally based living in Old Lyme. I know you were a bit goofy some times, but I enjoyed that. You can’t have dour all of the time.
I miss your smiling face after all those years and truly hope that you can land in Connecticut where we all can still watch you. If you happen to relocate out of state, I wish you nothing but sunshine and lollipops….

  81. Geoff, we continue to miss you.We are getting our news and weather from channel3.
My wife and I are sure you will get to a better place. We will continue to check-in on
your Blog.Keep us all in the loop.
Our Best Wishes for a bright future.

  82. We still can not believe that you are not part of our nightly weather forecast, and with what we considered a solid team.
There is no way we will watch News 8 any longer-the new person has the personality of a dead fish.
Please keep us all posted on what the new chapter of your life will hold-and wish you all the best.

  83. I’d echo the other comments. I’ve stopped watching Channel 8. The weather on the other channels is mediocre compared to yours. NECN isn’t bad, but of course, it’s focus is New England-wide.
How about putting your own online nightly!?

@Lisa, despite what Mariono said, according to a press release from Wfsb, the station dominated the Connecticut local news ratings during the month of February. “February was a bad month for winter weather but a great month for market leader Wfsb Channel 3. Overall every one of the station’s newscasts won the top spot.”
