Auto Repair: I’m The Blade Runner

Rainex, are you reading this? Very clever packaging the way there’s an outer cardboard shell hiding the inner cardboard shell with the instructions! I didn’t know that until I shredded the inner while opening the outer.

Please don’t laugh. I know this is down at the far end of car repair, but I changed my wiper blades today. When you’re mechanically challenged like me that’s an accomplishment!

Does anyone really change them when needed or are you like me… you wait until it’s bothered you through a bunch of noisy rainstorms first?

Helaine picked them up at Pep Boys this morning. She got a pair of 22″ blades from Rainex.

It’s a sunny day. The only workout the wipers will get will be when I wash the windows. I plan on doing that a lot today.

  1. Just learned how to do mine yesterday! Oh and yes I think I waited four years to replace mine which is probably far too long.

    1. Yes! They also just replaced a headlamp for me … Free of charge! Just pay for the lamp! Almost broke down and got new blades too … But – next time!! LOL!

  2. Why does it seem something so easy… is really not that easy… my husband destroyed a set a few weeks ago trying to get them on… lol.. had to go buy another set …. and then let the GIRL at the desk put them on for him. lol !!! He is very mechanically challenged!! Isn’t one side generally longer than the other???

  3. Hi Geoff, I feel for you. I just replaced mine on my Ford Escape,it has 2 different size blades. The first one I got, the blade off easy enough but I didn’t pay attention to how I took it off so I had to stand there in my bewildered state looking like I knew what I was doing, incase anyone one of my neighbors had nothing better to do but watch what I was up to. Alas the lights in my head flashed and eureka!! it all came together for me. I walked in the house and told my wife that I took care of the wipers, as if I had just put in a new engine!

  4. these things are surprisingly not all that easy to put on, depending on the car and lighting conditions it can be a real pain in the ass, but right at the moment that I’m about to lose it they always seem to pop magically into place.

  5. The words that I dislike the most are lets work on the car.I know nothing about how to fix anything on it.

  6. Have fun with those wipers, I put them on my truck 6 months ago, and I am longing for a new pair already. They are not living up to their part of the bargain. I even E-mailed Rain-ex. They have yet to respond.
