Me In A Bar–Really

I went to a bar tonight. Been a long time.

I went to see a band. Longer time for that.

On the way home a sobriety checkpoint!

Officer: Where you coming from?
Geoff: A bar… but I don’t drink.

He waved me on.

The reason for my trip to the Main Pub in Machester was Jason Bush. Jason works at FoxCT as part of the production crew. He directs, runs cameras and floor directs. There’s probably more I don’t know or remember.

Jason is also drummer for the Showtown Band. Tonight was their first gig.

The band consists of a drummer, bassist and keyboard player plus a male and female singer. They alternate leads.

I walked in around midnight. They were already playing and did so for another forty minutes. 15-20 people from the station watched along with the bar’s regulars.

The band does Motown. The arrangements replicate the originals as much as possible. They were tight

It was good to see Jason do this, especially because the band’s a hit.

  1. I haven’t been to a bar or to see a band in a long time either. Spent a lot of time doing both when I was dating/married to a musician. Gotta love live music. Glad to hear the checkpoints are up and working trying to keep us safe this holiday weekend.

  2. There are some amazing live music bars near you … as someone who relies upon people attending shows at these types of venues for my livelihood, I’d love to run into you at one of them! 🙂 The Outer Space on Treadwell St. in Hamden is my current favorite hangout, but Cafe Nine on State St. in New Haven is a close second. You might enjoy George Baker’s Jazz Jam at Cafe 9 tomorrow afternoon, for example.
