Bet you didn’t know there’s a tropical storm out in the Atlantic. It’s Chris, south of Newfoundland and east of New Jersey. Top winds are 50 mph.
Hurricane names alternate between male and female. Chris can go either way in life, but since it follows Alberto and Beryl this storm’s a boy!
Chris is east of the major shipping lanes and far from land. Its threat is minor.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN MARGINALLY CONDUCIVE FOR SOME SLIGHT STRENGTHENING DURING THE NEXT 12-18 HOURS. AFTER THAT TIME…CHRIS WILL BE INTERACTING WITH A FRONTAL BOUNDARY AND MOVING OVER MUCH COLDER WATERS. HOWEVER…THE GLOBAL MODELS INDICATE THAT THE CYCLONE WILL INITIALLY MAINTAIN ITS STRENGTH AS AN EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONE…BEFORE WEAKENING IN 2-3 DAYS

Most years after the hurricane season I’ll be asked what happened to the ‘insert letter here’ storm. This year that letter will be “C”.
I always thought hurricanes needed warm water? This seems abnormally far north for one to form, especially this early in the season?
I think it did form in the Gulf Stream, which has warmer water, but you are right. The gulf Stream can’t be that warm yet…
