Where’s The Substance?

Neither side will open up because both sides are scared of how their own words will be used against them!

Have you seen that bike race in the Olympics where they starting going very slowly until one finally seizes the moment and speeds away? That’s what’s going on!

We’re about three months from the presidential election. Where’s the substance? No one’s talking specifics.

The Republicans are right. President Obama isn’t running on his record.

The Democrats are right. Governor Romney speaks in platitudes without specifics.

Neither side will open up because both sides are scared of how their own words will be used against them!

Have you seen that bike race in the Olympics where they starting going very slowly? When the moment’s just right one rider seizes the moment and speeds away? That’s what’s going on!

Both parties have shown a propensity to take words out of context to distort their opponent’s meaning. Effective!

It’s like “Frankenbites” in reality television. A word here… a word there… all of a sudden it’s a sentence. With a little helpful prodding meaning can be redefined after the fact!

One of two things will happen. It’s possible the debates will force one or both the contenders to open up. That would be good. I can also see one side trailing by a wide enough margin that specificity is all that’s left. It’s truth as a Hail Mary pass!

This is all just sad. I know “it ain’t beanbag,” but it shouldn’t be this either. Campaigning this way does a disservice to us all.
