2013 Blizzard Snow Totals For Connecticut (updated)

This post has been updated with the final totals from NWS. If your town actually had more or less… well, I’m just the messenger

Just in case you’re wondering here are the Connecticut snow totals as of 7:30 AM, Saturday. It’s still snowing and accumulating in Eastern Connecticut, so the final totals could be higher.

I was just out, It’s surreal. We have 2.5 feet easily in Hamden. I have never seen anything like this, even in Buffalo.

Just don’t call it Nemo… or Charlotte.

  1. Amazing – even the shoreline is getting a bunch. Last time CT had snow like this has to have been back in 95/96, right? I remember being stuck at home with a newborn…couldn’t WAIT for Spring that year.

  2. WELL I TALKED TO MY KIDS SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT BLIZZARD LARRY OF 1978 AND JUST

HOW BAD IT WAS AND HOW ME AND MY OLDER BROTHER SHOVELED PEOPLES DRIVEWAYS WITH

JUST A SHOVEL AND IT TOOK US HOURS TO DO!!

THEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE THIS MORNING AND WOKE MY KIDS UP AND SAID GUESS WHAT

GUYS YOU GOT YOUR WISH/THIS BLIZZARD DUMPED MORE SNOW THEN 1978 AND THE MY SON SAID

STICKING HIS CHEST OUT AND SAID NOW DAD I HAVE SOMETHING TOO TO TELL MY KIDS

    ABOUT!!

BUT THIS TIME I AM GONNA FIND SOMEONE WITH A SNOW BLOWER /THEN MAYBE AGAIN

    A BULLDOZER!!
    !

  3. Just measured it in two spots here in Cromwell, trying to stay away from drifts. 33 inches. Drifts completely covered my car. I’m already at my physical limit from trying to dig it out and I’m not close. The main drive through the condo complex is ploughed, but the individual courts are not. Hope no one needs emergency service before that happens. Worst blizzard I can remember, and I’m 54.

  4. Thank you so much for posting this information. I have been scouring the internet looking for it since “local” news stations will not post any information for Southeastern CT (and actively delete and ignore facebook requests for it). It’s like they don’t think New London county is part of CT! I never would have thought asking for statewide snowfall totals after a major blizzard was such an outrageous request. Thank you, Geoff Fox, for coming through for us forgotten Connecticutians! Keep up the great work!

  5. As I mentioned on your Facebook last night, I’m not calling it Nemo or Charlotte. I figure if the Weather Channel and a news station can call it whatever THEY want, then I can call it whatever I want. So, I named the storm Guinevere for two reasons: 1) the name Guinevere means white and we’ve got plenty of white, and 2) I always thought Queen Guinevere was a bitch and so was this storm. I just asked my husband how much we got and he said 22″ easy. I have to say though, I live on a side street not far from Route 6 and my road looks pretty good.

  6. Spot on in New Preston. I noticed New Milford was not reported. Was at mMom’s she had 24″ . My dad only measured 14 on his mountain top. Now he is between me and her so I don;t see how he only got 14. HMMMM

Thanks for all the reports Geoff and yes for not calling in Nemo or Charlotte. Frankly Blizzard of 2013 is all that is needed

  7. Geoff don’t know how these totals from National Weather Service offices in Taunton, MA and Upton and Albany, NY are so far off over 36+drifts in Middletown.

  8. geoff,

We lived in Syracuse for four years, so this brings back memories. i won’t say they’re good ones, though.

I do recall Buffalo loading up trains with snow because they ran out of places to put it, but I believe you were already in CT then.

  9. Hi Geoff, I just love reading your postings — it’s comforting to know that even though you’re not on the air (yet!) we can still read what you have to say! Wishing you all the best — hopefully you’ll get a life-upgrade this year & we’ll see ya more than ever! Wouldn’t THAT be something! Let’s keep hearing Doppler’s insights too, and keep posting where she goes & what she’s saying about it : )

Lynn from Ansonia (PS: Ansonia’s not listed under New Haven County : ( We surely got 30″ here, and of course the drifting too — but 30″ snowfall. I think it’s because we’re really in a valley (?).

  10. Miss seeing your smiling face on Tv. Truly miss your accurrate forecast…wishing you, Steph, and Helaine the best!!! Wishing you’d land another job locally. Thanks so much for posting Wx details….looking forward to more posts about Mystic, Ct. Only Gil Simmons speaks briefly of SE Ct…Miss ur detailed broadcast. Blessings from Mystic. Gwyneth

  11. I will always remember the Blizzard or 1978 and now the Blizzard of 2013. Storm names only work if they are from a single credible source. Ch 3’s storm names are infuriating and NBC is doing a great job ruining the Weather Channel.
