CT To CA — First Night’s Stay

I’m writing while Helaine showers. We slept like babies. Add your own joke here.

We spent the night at the Red Roof Inn in Danville, PA. If you’re a traveler you know Red Roof isn’t the top of the highway lodging food chain… and yet, I’m here to ‘praise the roof&#185’!

We found this place using PetsWelcome.com. Doppler is small and quiet enough to sneak into a motel, but why?

This place is a two story affair with exterior walkways to the rooms. There were no first floor rooms vacancies. Upstairs!

Bed — Firm mattress. Absolutely comfortable.
Flat Panel TV — yes
Refrigerator — yes
Microwave — yes
Work desk — yes (with free WiFi)
Shower — good water pressure

All this for $65.84 plus tax. And we didn’t make the reservation until a few hours before arrival. It’s a correctly priced gem.

We’ll be out of here within the next hour, back on the road. We should be in the vicinity of Chicago, around 600 miles away, when we stop this evening.

&#185 – Red Roof: Feel free to steal that phrase. It works.

  1. Glad to hear you lucked out there. I’ve never stayed there, but it’s good to know it’s a good value; I too have a 4-legged family member who isn’t welcome everywhere!
    Safe travels!

  2. I stayed in the Red Roof Inn in Lancaster, PA last Summer. It was great! Very affordable. Everything you said is true!

  3. It is hard to find pet friendly hotels. Glad you found a clean, comfortable place to hang your hat for the night. Hugs to Doppler!

  4. Red Roof Inns were always my dad’s favorite when he was traveling a lot. Looking forward to living vicariously through your cross country trek – I’ve always wanted to drive cross country. Bucket list top 5 for me.

  5. That’s great. Hope you find all your accomodations along the way just as comfortable & reasonably priced. Hope you take some pics along the way. Stay safe.

  6. I travel for work fairly often. A couple years back I thought I would try out a red roof down on LI, was brand new at the time and same experince. Excellent clean accomidations for a value ! Have used other since and never been let down !

  7. I would LOVE to see your pictures if you make it into the city. My all time most beautiful sky line is driving out to Navy Pier and taking a picture back of the Chicago Skyline — if it’s not far out, clicky would love the view…

  9. Yes, thanks for the tip about the website (hadn’t heard of it before). By the way, regarding your comment in your last post about the traffic in NJ, I spent close to 25 years commuting opposite the traffic going to and from NYC on I-80. I always marveled at the people traveling on the other side. The farther they built out I-80, the farther away from NYC people actually went. Some even commuted from PA!!!
