Two Dogs, No Waiting

IMAG0002-w1200-h1200

I am typing this from the bed in the guest room. It and my office are currently the only rooms with furniture. Doppler is curled up in the bed. Roxie is down on the floor.

What we have now is benign neglect. They can be close, just not too close! Doppler has snarled and gone after Roxie. Bad idea. Roxie weighs at least twice as much, maybe more.

IMAG0006-w1200-h1200Roxie is Stef’s dog. She was supposed to be a miniature dachshund. Oops. Maybe she is? Is there a prize for largest miniature?

All this has come about because Stef drove down from Hollywood. Today it was a 45 minute trip. It has also taken twice that long.

Driving here can be a crap shoot especially when these two words are included: “The Five.”

There is a community pool two streets from our house. Stef and I walked over. She was in a two piece. I wore shorts, t-shirt and carried a towel to place over my pale white legs.

One of us is more a Californian than the other!

Being this close to Stef is a bonus. My daughter is a grown-up. We spent our time at the pool schmoozing. It’s so much easier to schmooze in person than on the phone.

This was a planned down day for H and me. I spent a few minutes at Home Depot. Helaine and Stef will probably hit Ralph’s.

We get busy again tomorrow. The painters should finish, opening the way for lots of furniture to be delivered Saturday.

  1. Doppler and Roxie will be okay after they have some time to get comfortable with each other – once you’ve gotten settled in the house and it becomes clear to both that the house is Doppler’s home, they’ll figure it out. And it’s nice to see doule cuteness!

  2. Its so wonderful that you can see your daughter more often now. My son is 26 and now lives in Mass a good 3 hour ride (on a good day). I miss him just dropping by, stealing my food, laundry detergent and just hanging out. No matter how old your kids get, you still want them as close as possible……..

  3. Give ole Doppler a break! She just rode in a car for what have seemed like forever, a different room every night, and now this new house in a whole different client and OMG, a strange dog! I’m sure they will be best friends given time to get to know one another.

  4. The dogs will work out their kinks before too long. I’m sure in no time at all, when you tell Doppler “Roxie is coming to visit” she’ll be wagging her tail with happiness.

I know what you mean about the “miniature.” My mini-schnauzer didn’t get the memo either. But I love your line “Is there a prize for largest miniature?” I do believe I may borrow that one for future use.

Most of the freeways down your way are congested. Travel is always a crap shoot in SoCal, something that you’ll get used to in time.

You might be surprised, once you’re out and about more, just how quickly you’ll get that California bronzed look. Goodness, how I miss all that.

I couldn’t be happier for you that you will get to spend so much more time with Steph. There’s nothing like family being close by. I know you will enjoy living in California. It doesn’t take long to get used to the lifestyle, it’s almost Shangri-la.

  5. Finally, a Doppler picture and now we can see Roxie more often, too. Give ’em time and they will work it out. Poor Doppler probably doesn’t realize this HER new palace and Roxie will only be a sometimes visitor. She’s still adjusting and living in an awful lot of confusion for her. Keep the photos coming as she explores and adjusts to her new “queendom”.

  6. There’s an old saying ‘It’s not the size of the dog in the fight it’s the size of the fight in the dog’. I’m sure the dogs will get settled soon enoughespecially if they have more time together.
I have an 18 month old cat who beat the crap out of my neighbors Doberman a month ago. Needless to say said dobie has learned to steer clear of that little ball of teeth, fur and claws, lol. So much for size differences!
