I would pick I5 (Santa Ana Fwy) over the 405 (San Diego Fwy). If you ended up on I105 (Century Fwy), I would think that would be long way around if you are heading towards the Hollywood area. I could think a number of different ways to go from Irvine to Hollywood. I use to love to drive around LA & Orange Counties all the time when I lived there.
