As Long As The Camera Was Out

This seemed like a good day to demonstrate the camera’s mount, so I brought “Clicky” outside, pointed toward the second floor window and fired away. With this setup do the neighbors think I’m a spy or perv or both?

As soon as I walked outside I knew this would be a good time lapse day. Cumulus clouds were building over Santiago Peak in the nearby Santa Ana Mountains. I suctioned my little NABI Square HD camera to the window in the master bath and pointed it skyward.

As I walked back toward the house I noticed a hummingbird at my feeder. It’s a little dark for hummingbird shots, but what the heck. Click, click, click, click.

Then I pointed the camera at a daylily near the front door.

The time lapse is dynamite. And, a few more shots for good measure!

  1. I am guessing that the camera was pointed away from the canyon fire. Are you still getting a fair amount of smoke, or has the wind changed directions? The fire looks pretty huge from our TV reports—but who knows how accurate those are.
Back to your time lapse–the pinkness to the clouds at the end–due to sunset?

    1. I was heading away from the fire. We haven’t seen smoke today. It is now 50% contained. The fire is within the Cleveland National Forest and they and Orange County are staffing the fight. As of 7:00 PM: “Reduction in size is due to improved mapping and ground truthing. Fire activity is much reduced with activity limited to isolated islands. The demobilization of resources has begun.”

My time lapse was pointed away from the Sun, but yes.

      1. Thanks for your reply, Geoff.
Our newscasts still show the fire raging—seems to me (if I heard right) that they have lost more houses, too.
Sunday eve’s newscast was basically on the dangers to the firemen battling this one in the midst of your ongoing heat –ranging over 100 deg. Another question that you can answer in your blog regards Hurricane Odine(not sure of spelling) and if it will get up to you folks or go east as others have done.
I too, amaze at the hummingbirds and your photos of same–you should be able to sell them to a feeder company!

  2. Love the hummingbirds myself.

I have no feeders at my home near Saybrook Point – but I saw one today near the flower of my potted Canna. They seem to zoom right toward the flower and are gone in seconds. Have no idea what type it was.
