31 Years

She was quite the catch, even if I was too stupid to understand right away. Guys can be stupid.

h-is-a-sad-poodleIt goes in the blink of an eye. Today is Helaine and my 31st wedding anniversary. We woke to snow on-the-ground in ’83.

In the wedding pictures Helaine and her folks are terrified. My family is giddy.

I understand their fear.

My wife isn’t in the blog too often. Helaine likes to remain hidden.

She was quite the catch, even if I was too stupid to understand right away. Guys can be stupid.

She is smart. She is funny. She is caring. She knows more about sports than me. She’s an excellent chef and an amazing baker.

She spoils me. She spoils Stef.

Clothes magically appear in my closet. “Try this on,” she’ll say with a few shirts waiting on the bed. Shoes too.

Anything she sets out to do, she does well.

Last week we were laying on the couch together just watching TV. There could be no feeling more comfortable and warm and loving.

Thirty one is a good start.

  2. Geoff and Helaine, have a wonderful anniversary!! You guys are such great friends I’ve never met in person, but you are very much a part of my life via social media!! Enjoy your day and may your blessings be many in the coming year!!
    Love, Evi

  3. All the best to you and Helaine on your 31st anniversary! Cherish what you have! My husband died after 28 years of marriage. Although I am in a relationship, I will never see the amazing number of anniversaries that your parents had! You are on your way! Much love to the pair of you!

  4. It goes by fast when you are having fun (lol). I hit 20 years of marriage last year –and it seems like yesterday we’re in our 20’s sitting on the beach at Ocean Beach, New London watching the sun set over Long Island Sound. It goes like a flash!

Just to keep you updated on the “big East Coast storm (wink…

it’s officially a “bust” now (lol). The hype was the storm – lol. It’s 4:00 PM and not a single flake has accumulated on the ground from northern VA/Washington DC to NYC/Connecticut!!I the storm am now right off DE Bay and moving window is closing fast. Here in the New Haven area, it is 39 F and a light rain is falling, as it has much of the day (light spring-like rain showers, though, not heavy)…………but not a single flake of snow has survived on the ground (yay), I don’t know if it even ever snowed at all (was not outside all day), but nothing on the ground at all. Zip!

I checked 20 traffic cams on I- from Washington DC to New London, CT….and there is not a speck of snow to be found – all you see is green grass (lol). I don’t know about points west of I-95 or up north (MA/New England or Upstate NY), but there is “zip” from this storm from NYC/CT south down the East Coast to Washington DC. As one who hates snow – all I can say is “TOUCHDOWN”

The forecast for Thansksging looks pretty good on I-95 for travelers from NYC/CT to Miami, sunny and dry with highs from 40’s F (north) to near 80 F (south).

  5. Sorry I wrote so fast I forget to use spell – check (lol)

    1. Well, gee, I thought those of us living in Barkhamsted were in CT! We’ve been seeing snow since 9am and currently have 7 inches on the ground.

Isn’t quite the bust you make it out to be for all of us.

  6. May you be blessed with at least 31 more good, healthy and loving years. We’re going on 49 years. “Who woudda thunk” as they say. And it’s been a grand hoot the whole way. Wishing you the same.

  7. Congratulations, Geoff & Helaine!

You didn’t tell us what you are doing to celebrate your special day?

Hope it is whatever is most special to you both.

  8. Congratulations. Wishing you many more years. With so many marriages breaking up it is nice to see/hear about the ones who last so long…
Snowing here in Danbury (which IS still in Connecticut along with Barkhamstead) Six inches last I looked and still snowing/sleeting.

  9. There has been some snow way up in the NW Hills and near Danbury (thought I doubt more than 4 inches)….but most of metro CT like Stamford, Bridgeport, New Haven, New London, and even central CT ZERO snow. There also was no snow from DC to NYC.

    Yes I would say “BUST”!

  10. I agree that maybe way up in Barkhamstead (near MASS state line) they might have dad snow (though I too doubt more than 3-4 inches), but no a single city in CT reported temps below freezing temps ALL day…and there is not a speck of snow on the ground as of now. The “storm” (a joke)is now off LI so it’s over.

Here are the 7:00 obs from NWS NYC – they tell the storm, most of CT and the Tri-State is seeing RAIN.

  11. I live in New Haven and got enough snow to coat the ground. I was hoping for more.
That said, Happy Anniversary to you Geoff and Helaine – and many more!

  12. I checked NWS….according to reports 0.9 inches was the largest snow totals in the Metro New Haven area (lol). I assume this was way up in north Hamden (Mt Carmel). THe other NWS reporting stations in the Tri-State (NWS Bridgeport and Central Park) both reported 0.2 inches of snow (the thickness of a few finger nails – lol). I drove this morning from New London to West Haven….there is ZERO snow = just green grass.

Lets’ face – the East Coast media machine hyped and duped us again!!

In any event, glad the pattern will turn mild now…highs are expected to be near 50 F for the first week of December in much of the Tri-STate. I hope its nothing but sunny and in the 50’s until Dec 20th then I’ll be in Miami (88 F two days ago – lol) and it can do what ever it wants up north (lol).

  13. Congrats to you both. My parents only made 16 years. But my grandparents (on my moms side) made it to 65+ years. (didn’t quite make it to 70 but not sure exactly how many they did make). Marriage is complicated. Of my dads 6 kids, two are still married to their original spouses, one is on wife #3, two have been married twice and I’m still single. Kind of planning on staying that way. Less complicated that way I suppose. Maybe I just saw my parents and older siblings mistakes and subconsciously said ‘Nope…not for me’.
I guess it’s like Mae West once said “Marriage is a great institution. But I’m not ready for an institution.’.
But I’m glad you made it work and continue to make it work.

  14. Congratulations……..we’re at 30 and a half…..right behind you. Seems like only 30 and a half minutes…..where does the time fly?
