More Sightseeing With My Dad

Today, another perfect day in the OC. Our high was 81 with low humidity and bright blue skies. Even the breeze was warm.

There are only a few days left before my dad heads back to Milwaukee and reality. Next stop on the Harold Fox Grand Tour: Top of the World.

TOW is a park in Laguna Beach. It’s 1,000 feet above sea level. The ocean, itself at sea level, is under two miles away. Very pretty.

This time of year the Sun sets behind the tip of Santa Catalina Island, 35 miles away.

The ride to Top of the World is a little hairy. The steepest single block I’ve ever driven is on the route. Then you wind through narrow canyons toward the flat peak and lots of homes on stilts I can’t afford.

Access is easy. My father had no trouble.

There were 25-30 people waiting for the light show. Hikers and bikers passed through. There are miles of trails here. Lots of folks bring dogs, mostly of the large variety.

The visibility was excellent. We had no trouble seeing snowcapped Mount Baldy over 50 miles away.

Here’s a little of what we saw.
