Expect The Unexpected

I just spent a half hour sitting on the concrete ‘studio’ floor wrangling a problem I didn’t expect. Necessity has made me a networking engineer.

The weather computer at KMIR will produce maps and graphics for the shows I’ll do from home. They’ll be sent here via FTP. They’ll get here in seconds.

The station’s computer has this functionality built in. I’m not as lucky. I’ll have to do port forwarding to make my file server visible on the Internet.

This is the kind of thing I can understand in the abstract. In the real world there are menus and commands which aren’t always intuitive. It’s a maze. This is a good time to read support forums.

If my life was a reality show, this would be the dilemma as they break for commercial.

This problem will be solved tomorrow (with a pillow to sit on) but it’s time spent that wasn’t expected. And that’s to be expected… even if that sounds oxymoronic.
