All Roads Lead To SoCal

The older I get the more I enjoy seeing relatives. It really is a bigger deal for me nowadays. Is this the way it works with everyone? Is the whole concept of family something that’s only understood as a grown-up?

Another week, another visitor from the East. We know why you come here. We used to come here too!

Tonight it was Cousins Judy and Gary visiting from the DC ‘burbs. Judy is Cousin Michael’s sister.

This was a too brief visit. Just enough time for a cozy dinner for seven at a local place. Even then I rushed to get back for the nine o’clock newscast.

Judy and Gary’s daughter Rachel is getting married in September, so lots to talk about. My father and his brother (Judy and Michael’s dad) Uncle Murray will both attend. Talk about getting the band back together!

  1. Glad you can get together with your family! This is not the way its worked out in my family. With the loss of each family member, we drift further apart. There are still clusters who stay in touch and are even quite close, but for some reason, my son and I have been excluded from that. I never really did fit in. One of the last things my mother said to me was “You were weird, but you were fun.” I cherish those words, it’s one of the nicest things she’s ever said to me. It really sums up our relationship.
