Ricki And The Flash

I am a good husband.

Rick Springfield is in another movie.

Oh crap. “Hard to Hold 2?”

Please. No.

Cards on the table. My wife has been a big Rick Springfield fan since the 70s. I saw “Hard to Hold” with her. I am a good husband.

rick posterWe went this afternoon. It’s “Ricki and the Flash” starring Meryl Streep, directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Diablo Cody. It’s also got Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald (world’s most elegant woman) and Streep’s real life daughter, Mamie Gummer.

It’s a story about parents and children and the complexity of life multiplied by time. Is it ever too late to repair relationships?

I have nothing bad to say. Everyone was great. Streep was greater.

She sang her own songs and played her own guitar. Really. She learned guitar for a movie.

Oh, Meryl. Could I love you more?

Rick Springfield was excellent. His performance was poignant and real. He was Streep’s emotional equal.

A lot of people don’t know, he’s a deserved rock star. He is an amazing guitarist and showed that on-screen.

Meryl Streep movies don’t attract kids. Yesterday I sent Helaine this sentence from a trade magazine (I apologize, I forget which)

The demo breakdown is 72% females with 90% age 25 and older. 69% are over 50 years old and most came because of Streep.

IMAG3032That sounds like the theater we were in.

We finished our date with dinner at In-N-Out.

  1. Streep is reason enough for me to go. Thanks for the review…now if only they had In and Out burger on the East Coast……..

  2. I went for Rick and loved his acting and the whole movie. 🙂 & I think it’s been about 18 years since I’ve had an in-n-out burger!

  3. We have a Girls Nite Out every Tuesday and go to the Holiday Cinemas in Wallingford…Will see this next week-mainly because of Rick Springfield aka Dr. Noah Drake (General Hospital) 🙂
It’s been 7 months since I had an In-N-Out Burger!!!!! So jealous!
