Eating Without Guilt

There’s never been a time in my life when I’ve been encouraged to eat and put on weight… until now. It’s totally weird. Even my endocrinologist said it was OK to have my blood sugar elevated a little in the pursuit of pounds. I suspect everything resets after the surgery anyway.

Less than a week to go before my twice rescheduled Whipple. I’m trying to put the time to good use.

There’s never been a time in my life when I’ve been encouraged to eat and put on weight… until now. It’s totally weird. Even my endocrinologist said it was OK to have my blood sugar elevated a little in the pursuit of pounds. I suspect everything resets after the surgery anyway.

Last time I checked I’m five-ish pounds above my slimmest. I will soldier on. I will eat.

I am gaining weight to compensate for what I’ll lose after next Tuesday’s operation. There’ll be no solid food for a few days, then a s-l-o-w adjustment back. Weight loss averages 5% to 10% before stabilizing. That will put me in high school weight territory.

Tonight’s “Dinner II” was a sliced smoked turkey low carb wrap with lettuce, tomatoes and mustard, preceded by an injection of five units of fast acting insulin. It’s good to eat at 11:45 PM without guilt.

  1. After first heart attack, my cardiologist told me fruits, veggies, white meat, fish, no diary products – did it till cardiac arrest & open heart surgery/triple by-pass – then same old same old – post first heart attack menu – ONLY now like GP told me eat what you want one day a week & ENJOY LIFE = I DO – FEEL IMSPIRED 2 LIVE HEALTHY!

  2. Good luck with your surgery. I loved watching you in Ct. Now I’ve been in Florida for 21 years & still follow you.
