Back To The ER

That opinion changed when I took off my suit coat between broadcasts last night. I looked like a gunshot wound victim! Blood had saturated the dressing over my port and was slowly flowing out onto my shirt.

Yesterday was my first chemo treatment. As far as I could tell it went perfectly.

That opinion changed when I took off my suit coat between broadcasts last night. I looked like a gunshot wound victim! Blood had saturated the dressing over my port and was slowly flowing out onto my shirt.

We are talking small amounts of blood, probably less than a test tube’s worth. But the fact it was still oozing after 24 hours was wrong.

First stop my local “Urgent Care” facility. Closed for Thanksgiving.

That led me to the ER at Hoag Hospital in Irvine. I’m not sure why (well, it is Thanksgiving) but there was little action. I was seen quickly.

The verdict: the blood thinner I take probably had something to do with this. The bleeding had actually stopped a while ago, but there was still enough liquid in with the clotting to keep my bandages red. This shouldn’t happen, but it’s not terrible.

The area was re-dressed and with instructions to handle it next time sent on my way.

My ER doc was Tyler Reynard MD. First, no one named Tyler should be old enough to be a doctor! Today’s his 37th birthday, so he was just Tylered before it became a trend.

He grew up in Laguna Beach, has model like features and is an ER doc. Even I’d consider marrying him.

His last name is Reynard!

“We have the same last name,” I said. “I’m Geoff Fox.” He knew. Reynard is French for Fox (Merci, Mme Gobstein)

Back home now. This crisis averted. There will surely be others. My medical treatment has become complex. Lots of moving parts all interacting

  2. Glad to hear you are back on track. I met you at WestConn back in the day. I grew up in Flushing NY and actually had Mrs Gobstein for French at Campbell JH PS218. Small world.
