Eric Wotila stopped by today. He’s here in SoCal from Cadillac, Michigan. They get real winter in Cadillac. This is Eric’s first time on the West Coast.
He and I have spoken many times but never met until today. Eric built the prototype for the TV stations I work on in Nebraska. MI26 is a 24/7 local TV station for the Cadillac area. No network. No syndicated shows (or very few). Just local programming with a lot of repetition.
Television’s most common business model has been broadcasting. Eric thinks he can do better in 2017 narrowcasting; concentrating on his coverage area alone.
I showed him my studio and how it runs itself while I point at the maps. He’ll probably be stealing my method of entering the forecast on-screen.
We went to lunch.
First time in CA? He got the A1++ tourist tour! We headed to Laguna Beach. Lunch was at Las Brisas on a cliff overlooking the Pacific. Then we drove to Alta Laguna Park, aka Top of the World.
Though today was cloudy and chilly we went with the top down. C’mon, you need the full California experience.
I think Eric is on to something. It’s pretty exciting.
