A few days ago Robert visited from AT&T. When he was done I had 1000/1000 Mbps Internet service. In 2017 that’s fast!
The new Internet service is in the house. It’s not being used yet. There are decisions to be made. Devices need to connect in very specific ways so other devices can find them.
Speed counts. Wherever possible equipment will be connected via ethernet cable. WiFi is a last resort only for portable equipment.
While checking through connections this evening I found a few pieces of equipment that aren’t gigabit capable. The earlier standard was only 10% as fast.
As I understand it, a slower device on the network brings everything down to its speed. The slow stuff will be replaced. My order is already in at Amazon.
Little did I know while building the studio that I’d be the IT guy. When enabled my network will host over twenty devices. So much to know. Sometimes it’s overwhleming.
Don’t forget security, sounds like you’re engineering a hackers’ treasure trove out there in So Cal.

Luckily, you still have ATT U-Verse out there. We’re stuck with Frontier (they took over ATT here in CT—) AT&T only handles cell service now.
As long as your switches are all gigabit, having a few 10/100 devices shouldn’t slow other devices down. When the gigabit devices are talking to each other they will be at full speed. In the “old days” when there were hubs instead of switches this was more of an issue. Hubs weren’t smart, and ended up operating basically at the slowest speed among the things connected.
