My Trashcans Make A Break For Freedom

This morning, gale force wind gusts greeted the trashmen. That presented a moment of opportunity. Relieved of their loads, my trash cans and lids decided to make a break for freedom!

Our trash is picked up very early Friday mornings. It’s always Friday, except when there’s a holiday. When that happens, we’re forced to guess. Sometimes pickup moves to Saturday, sometimes not. It’s a fun game.

This morning, gale force wind gusts greeted the trashmen. That presented a moment of opportunity. Relieved of their loads, my trash cans and lids decided to make a break for freedom!

By the time I left the house for the roundup, the three cans and three lids were &#190 of the way down the street – a few hundred yards from the house.

The lids were all in the road, easily seen and about 100 yards downwind from my driveway. One of the trashcans tried to take cover in the woods, but was tied up in some bramble. The other two cans had made it another hundred yards down the street, but were stopped in their tracks by a strategically placed tree limb, also trying to make a break.

I’ve returned the bunch of them (sans tree limb) to the garage, where they’re now under armed guard.

They were kept well fed and, other than Fridays, protected from the elements. Where had I failed them? I take this very personally.
