Into The Alley

Stef’s ball curves ever so slightly left. Helaine’s goes straight. I try and aim a light right from the center to hit the pocket. I seldom do.

forest lanesSunday. Memorial Day weekend. We went bowling with the other Irvine Foxes. Six Foxes. Two lanes. Ninety minutes.

The last time we bowled was in Wallingford, CT. It’s been a while.

Everyone bowls differently. We all share lack of control!

Irvine Lanes first. We arrived at eight. They close at nine.

What kind of bowling alley closes at nine?

Next stop Forest Lanes in Lake Forest, just south of us. They’re open to 11:00 PM.

Michael, Melissa and Max bowled on 13. We were on 14.

Stef bowled a 135! That was tops for all of us and an all-time best for her.

In the car on the way home she discussed strategy for next time. She’s going with a heavier ball. My daughter is very competitive. That will serve her well.

Good times. Great seeing the cousins. It’s been a while since we lived near family.

Sunday Night In Las Vegas

Sunday in Vegas. Sad. Lots of people checking out. Even losers don’t want to leave. This is 24/7 entertainment for grown-ups.

I know Vegas once advertised itself as a family resort. I could not agree less! IMHO this is not a good place for kids.

Brunch with the gang then check out for us. No, we aren’t leaving yet. We’re just moving across the street.

The photo on the left is a mobile billboard, one of many driving up-and-down the Strip advertising services you don’t want to explain to your children.

Brunch with the gang then check out for us. No, we aren’t leaving yet. We’re just moving across the street. It’s possible to get deals while you’re here. We just put two together back-to-back!

Today is Stef’s birthday. While I powernapped she, Helaine and Sam went shopping. Then the culmination of Stef’s birthday celebration. We went bowling at the Gold Coast!

The Gold Coast is an older casino off-the-strip on Flamingo. It’s down the street from the Rio and across the way from the Palms.

Bowling is fun! Bowling in Vegas is extra fun, especially on my child’s 25th.

Gotta run. We’re meeting my cousins for what was scheduled as a meal, but will now be a snack. Vegas is also about gluttony!

Lebowski Influence: The Foxes Go Bowling!

This was my poorest bowling experience since I was a little kid! When your wife offers encouragement that it’s still possible for you to break 100 you know things are bad!

Helaine and I might not have found “The Big Lebowski” the best movie we’d ever seen, but it did leave an impression! That’s why Helaine’s New Years Eve afternoon question seemed reasonable.

“Want to go bowling?”

The Foxes come well prepared. We each have a bag, ball and shoes! In the garage since our last bowling foray they were covered with whatever it is that makes a garage so esthetically unique.

Helaine in her role as family archivist noted it had been a year and a half since we last bowled. In that time the lanes closest to us had closed. Off to Google for helping finding a place.

I’m sure this is my screw-up, but 600 South Colony somehow became 800 North Colony when I entered it into MapQuest4Mobil on my iPhone. That brought us to stores and people, but no bowling alley.

I asked the guy moving shopping carts toward the grocery if he knew where it was.

“You know where the tattoo place is?” he asked.

I said yes though the answer was no. We drove toward the presumed location.

On the other hand the company was spectacular. I had a great time being with Helaine.

She beat me three-for-three!
