The Celebration

Of all my husbandly duties, the celebration of events is where I am my weakest. I still knew I wanted to do something for her tonight.

Helaine celebrated an event today. That’s all I can say. No “B” word will be spoken. Please, for my sake, do not say anything to her.

Of all my husbandly duties the celebration of events is where I am my weakest. I still knew I wanted to do something for her tonight.

About a week ago I spoke to Stef. “Do you know your mother’s redacted is Friday?” The answer wasn’t yes. Immediately we set to plot against Helaine.

I got myself excused for the 7:24 PM news brief, made reservations for dinner at Foster’s on Orange Street in New Haven (holy crap it was unbelievably yummy) and had Stef secretly meet me at the TV station.

Stef was in charge of the gifting. She went to a store near school and found a really cute bracelet. I think Helaine likes it. This is sooooo out of my area of expertise.

At 6:40 PM I popped out of the station, walked to the car and then told Helaine I’d forgotten something. A few seconds later I was back with the daughter.

Like I said, I’m not very good with this celebration stuff, but this really came off well. I hope Helaine enjoyed herself. It was everything I hoped it would be. We’re are a small family, but we’ve got a lot.

Clicky Takes The Hike

I told Helaine I’d wait until the top before I started shooting photos and I was true to my word.

Helaine and I walked Sleeping Giant again today. We were about a minute slower than the ‘record’ times we’d set the last few trips up. I’ll blame that on an antibiotic I’m taking and the fact “Clicky” was hanging on a strap around my neck.

I told Helaine I’d wait until the top before I started shooting photos and I was true to my word.

Recently I’ve been experimenting with HDR photograpy, so instead of “click” for each picture it was “click, click, click.” Three times the files. This is getting a little overwhelming.

I’ll process more later, but I thought I’d throw some on quickly this afternoon. The Giant is a place of amazing beauty even after hiking it close to 75 times this spring and summer. That it’s about five minutes from home is icing on the cake.
