I mentioned a week or two ago, Helaine and I are starting a small business. We still are. It’s still not ready. It’s getting closer.
I continue to be surprised by all I don’t know. We’re well beyond any experience either of us have.
In the past I’d be scared of this introduction to the unknown… and I suppose I am still apprehensive. What I’m learning is, when you don’t know something, move forward anyway. Many questions just can’t be answered in the abstract. Many answers will be ad libbed on the spot.
We’ve applied for an LLC, gotten an 800 number (actually 866) and inquired about advertising. We still need a bank account, tax number and way to accept payments from customers.
What if no one wants our service? What if lots of people want it? Both are daunting possibilities.
People have asked, is anyone doing what you’re planning on doing? Sort of. There are similar services, though I’d like to think not as good. Ours has some unique attributes which should make it special.
Does it really make a difference? The first doesn’t always become the market leader. Google wasn’t the first. Microsoft wasn’t the first. They either had a better product or were marketed better or got very lucky.
Within the next week or two I should be able to say more. If you’re not in broadcasting, our business will probably not be all that exciting to you. I’m just hoping it’s of interest to someone.
What have we forgotten?
