Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT. This 'mountain' was deposited when the glaciers retreated at the end of the last ice age.

Sleeping Giant, like all of the "trap rock" (basalt?) ridges in CT are volcanic in origin. So, it wasn't deposited by the glaciers as was Long Island, but it was perhaps exposed more by the scraping action of the glaciers against softer surrounding rock.
