My Garden Girls

My garden is flourishing! No one is more surprised than me.

A friend at the old place who slavishly watches our 4 O’clock newscast has given me garden grief more than once. He’s noticed I get a lot of help! He’s right.

Folks who normally fix equipment and maintain our facility did the original install including the garden’s killer drip irrigation system. They got the horse manure infused soil.

They’re sheepish about being on TV, but they’re responsible!

My big find was Sarah and Marlene. They are certified master gardeners, my garden angels!

I’ve known about the UCONN Master Gardener program for years, but never had any contact. On a lark I sent an email wondering if someone from the program would want to be involved? A little on-air publicity never hurt anyone. Sarah and Marlene are the result.

They’re both TV naturals. They are confident and unaffected by the camera. They are perfect.

When my zucchini was attacked by a common garden pest they diagnosed the problem. Marlene even dug in with her fingernail on-air so we could show what the culprit looked like!

Every week when they show up I thank them profusely. I really mean it. Without Sarah and Marlene the garden wouldn’t be nearly as green and my segment be anywhere near as much fun.
